looking to update my gpu but torn on which way to go (cheers for any help)

How would I flash it? I’m not that tech savvy

To be honest with you, all this get a vega 56 and flash it is not for you.
Buy either a vega 56 or a 64 and enjoy the stock performance don't try messing around with them if you don't know what you are doing.

Their are some good deals on the AMD cards at the moment, with their 50th anniversary promotions. Pick one buy it and enjoy it. Either that or wait for Navi hopefully in few months time.

There is something to be said for learning though right? We were all not tech savvy until we learned how to do things?
Plus I would gladly offer my services to guide him through it, as far a tech things go this doesn't require much of the savvy

Of course it is worth mentioning that the steps you have proposed will invalidate the warranty on the new card.

Now those of us here on the forum who know what we are doing can be fine with this, but maybe the opening poster isn't.

Of course he won't actually do that, and if he did he wouldn't at all flash it back to the original if he needed to. This is all just theoretical at this point

IMHO 56 over 64 like others said, its piffling to turn a 56 into a 64 ish performance - and thats up at 1080 levels.

56 always has been a great chip, just lots cant see past the green team.

Yeah I agree. I've had 12-5 Nvidia cards, then went Vega 56 and was delighted with the performance. Great chips.

I wouldn't bother messing around like that if I was you, Just go with a 56 or 64 if you do go Vega & be happy, if you do decide to to a bio's tweak make sure you're getting a dual bios card incase something goes wrong, Personally I'd wait, Grab a monitor now but leave getting the gpu until Navi and then decide if you can't get the 970 to run your games how you like them.

The V56 is about double a 970. I wouldn't even bother with flashing, there are plenty of guides to undervolting that will allow a good OC and decent performance increase with minimal hassle.
