Lost and Found

The Mrs called me one morning to tell me that she'd found a purse at the (unattended) train station. She also went on to tell me that there was a small bag of Class A in the purse and that she was going to hand it in at the train station at the other end.

Told her to get rid asap as the police would just love to believe her "I found it" excuse if for any reason the had cause to speak to her, which, at the beginning of the first lockdown when the police were challenging every passenger on the trains, happened regularly.

Thats it, next time I find a purse/wallet, im stuffing it with some of Columbia's finest..

How is that even possible?
Two ways I can think of.

1 - like @Angilion says, an unusually long delay in dispending the money so the ATM user thinks the transaction has failed.
2 - absent-mindedness. e.g. an ex of mine [we were in the 'courting phase' and she fancied me at the time] went to an ATM to get some money out before we met for coffee. She was so nervous she just walked away from the machine without taking the money. She was really annoyed with herself and told me about it afterwards.

Years ago I found an American's tourist wallet left in a restaurant of a hotel with over a £1000 in it along with credit cards etc. He was actually staying at the hotel so the restaurant staff rang his room and got him to come down to collect it. Guy thanked my profusely for finding his wallet but never even gave me £20 which if I am being honest, made be a bit miffed.

If somebody else had found it I am pretty sure he would have got his wallet back minus the money or never at all and would have ruined his holiday.

I think a small cash reward for finding a wallet is only fair, considering the alternative.

If I lost a wallet and someone found it with my cash in the least I would do is hand them a small reward. You get people been ruthless from both sides.

ive walked away from a cashpoint after taking out money... the machine sucks it back in after a while.

ok if we are doing found wallet/things. I found a appointment diary on a commuter train to Liverpool street.
Rang the owner and got a bottle of whiskey as a thx.
Very unexpected.
Couple of mobiles as well.. Nothing but huge thanks for them lol. As it should be.

If somebody handed my wallet in and had taken £20-£50 out of £500, id have absolutely no problems with it.

That is what I would have done if somebody had found my wallet and I would have been so relived!!!!!!

It wouldn't be so much as losing the cash but having o cancel and replace all your cards is a massive pain in the **** (I know I have had to do it once in my life)

So surprised when I got offered nothing but thanks esp with them being American.

I'd like to be all noble and say that i'd hand in a wallet full of cash, the reality is that dependent on my mood on the day it could go either way. On the flipside, if I lost a wallet full of cash, I would hand over a reward, let them get some bites to eat or something.
