Lost Siblings

to be honest - i think you should email her - keep it short. then go meet her face to face, if she is willing that is.

imho this is not something that should be done over email.

good luck with it all

I agree, although I think I'll send one long email with all my initial thoughts. TBH, if I wrote down everything I wanted to say on email, I'd crash her mail server.

Are your brothers and sister here in the UK or in Germany?

What a great thread, it's made my day reading this.:)

They're in the UK, well one of my brothers is in spain but should be back soon.

It's made my day as well, its only just starting to sink in.

IMO just give her a call and let things happen naturally :)

It would be the easyest way i would ahve thought, the scaryest but easyest.

At least you wont be sitting there wondering if she got your email or not:)

I feel ignored :(

Get on the blower to them, blubber away like someone who has just spoken to their long lost relatives for the first time in ages and arrange to meet up. Go for it. :)

Take your flat/housemate with you :)

Pleased to hear it, I wish you all the very best with "first contact", I've been in similar circumstances before myself (grandfather in my case), I can't think of anytime in my adult life that I have been more petrified! It turned out that he felt exactly the same way, so don't worry about it, I'm sure they're just as nervous. My contact was through a letter (before email:o !) and I still feel that was the right way, gave me time to absorb things before I talked over the phone and then ultimately a face-to-face meeting.

That's pretty much what I'm planning, it lets me ease in to the whole thing. I'm not used to having a family....

Sorry Zip.

I've thought about phoning her, but tbh I'll probably just cry, at least if I send an email I can sound remotely comprehensible.

Thers nothing wrong with crying.

You know she will probably cry to and it will show that you are really sad/happy :)

Not much a phone conversation though....

I think I'll leave the crying for a face to face meet ;)

Just to update you....

I sent an e-mail, and had a phone call about 30 mins ago.

I'm still shaking a little bit.

I know it cliched, but I really do feel like I've known her forever. ANd guess what? She's coming down on the weekend....

My god the last 4 and a bit hours have been surreal.
