Lostprophets Singer Facing Child Sex Charges

I know 35 years is still not enough, but in reality I was quite happily surprised that he got 35 years, murderers often get less.

With our soft jucicial system I was expecting only about a 15 year sentence.

Yeah I was expecting around 15 years for Ian as well, and the same for the 2 women (which they more-or-less got anyway). Not defending Lost Prophets or anything (not my kinda music) but 35 years is a hefty sentence for an attempted rapist. As he was considered dangerous though, locking him up until his early 70s so be it.

I think what he did was arguably worse than murder.

Sexual abuse of a child is the most callus and ghastly of crimes, not because of it's obviously disgusting nature - but because it destroys the most vulnerable members of our society in such an appalling away.

Any one of us could kill somebody, we could be forced to defend ourselves or be sent into a warzone, but to sexually abuse children in the ways he did (if you've read the judge's summing up) - I think it's perfectly justified.

One thing I do find odd in society, is the particular disgust for sexual abuse, obviously it's horrendous (no doubting that). But children who experience physical violence are also very likely to grow up with mental illnesses, depression & a myriad of other disorders - it should be treated equally with distain.

The kind of person would punch a child in just a different type of scum, but is considered significantly more socially acceptable (for some unknown reason) - when in reality both should be condemned in the strongest possible way.

Any particular instances of physical abuse against children you felt were commended, or at least not condemned?

Also you do you feel that one instance of corporal punishment would carry the same emotional impact as another, even if in one there was an element of sexual abuse and not in the other?

Disciplining a child and attempting to rape one are two very very different things, youd have to be raving mad to think otherwise

Taking the care and custody of a baby or small child, is the ultimate responsibility in the world, to sexually abuse them violates our morals and natural instinct in the most perverse way.

I take your point relating to children who experience violence will be affected very badly, but sexual abuse I think - is something only the most terrible of people are capable of.

It is an interesting point though, there are many things in society we seems to overstate in terms of right and wrong, but I don't think pedophilia is one of them.

My personal view, is that Ian Watkins should be executed, but I'm not interested in debating capital punishment, it's just a personal view.

Self defense is not murder, it makes no sense to say that it takes a sicker person to rape a child than it does to defend oneself, it's comparing apples to oranges.

Compare a child serial killer to a child molester if you want to make a comparison along those lines.

I was going to say I don't think he's talking about this or that, but he'll read this and chime in, I think he's guilty of something I do, I think about something then make a statement that isn't very clear without having the thoughts that went along with it.

Unless he just feels that child abuse with a non-sexual element is seen as acceptable in society, if so he could do with elaborating on this.

Guessing he won't be in with a lot of normal prisoners will he?

Deserves to be tortured every day until he dies along with the woman, absolute vile *****.

Hopefully the victims can grow up to have a good life.

Usually they keep the paedo freaks together to avoid any harm from other inmates. Otherwise I think hed be out in a body bag within a week. What a sicko! Bullet is all he needs.

Those sentencing remarks on that PDF. Wow!

The mothers were just as disturbing as Watkins actions “the boy is ready to be abused”.

Most of the content can't be put here. I assume that is what the deleted posts are above. Being the judge and the jury on this case must have been difficult. Would not have liked to have watched those videos :(

There is a chance he appeals and gets his sentence reduced as his legal team may say that no paedophile for this type of offence has ever been banged up for this length.

I suggest he will go to somewhere like Rampton on the grounds that he has a mental disorder.

This man is the vilest type of human our society produces

Not sure why the court write up is banned by OC, it is a legal document with no age restriction

Does anyone know if the case for the defence consisted of anything other than 'looking at online porn made me do it'?

Because OcUK is supposed to be a family friendly forum and descriptive details of child abuse is not really family friendly?
