I have just bought WOW and now LOTR is out! I have only just started WOW, 1 hour in! LOTR seems to be getting rave reviews tho!

Do I sell WOW and get the newer LOTR? Help!

Anyone else changed?

You've just bought WoW? then stick with it for the free month at least, then give Lotro a go imo

"What can you tell me about Monster Play? Monster Play is LOTRO's answer to PvP. In Monster Play you are able to play as an evil race or monster and battle against other human players. It's entirely consensual and limited to certain zones so there's no need to worry about being "griefed"! "

I love all genres of games but an MMO without real PvP seems totally pointless, Raids are fun for a while but half the fun in most games comes from killing other players.

Eastern MMO games always seem much more PvP oriented, as do FPS games, what a supprise they are more popular!!!

Carebear roleplayers are what give MMOs a bad rep. :p

I do not mean to insult LOTR, it looks like a very good game but without PvP I personally can't consider playing it or honestly recommend it.

WoW.

Most of the other MMO's are just cheap knockoffs by companies that see how much money Blizzard have made from WoW and thought "Hey, I want some of that". ;)

Another vote for WoW. Had a quick go on LOTR yesterday and my initial feeling is that it's not quite there yet. I'll give it another year or so before bothering again. I gave WoW 18 months before I started playing and it was excellent to play and properly polished by then.

Go for WoW if you're into PvP. LotRO is mainly PvE just now with monster play and I think PvP'ers won't like it.

Personally I only bought LotRO due to getting bored with WoW and VM-related connection issues.

Depends on what you like mate.

LOTR is very quest and story line based, so if that is your thing then go for it.

WOW is just about gear, there's no point to the game but just to get the latest gear which requires running the same instance 100's of times. As for PVP, if anyone even dares say WOW's pvp is good then they need a slap. Id rather reinstall ultima online and pvp in that than play in wow's awful system.

Bring on warhammer!

Anyone know if you can get a free trial for LOTRO?

I missed out on the beta cause the key I got from file planet was already taken?!? and they wouldn't give me a new one

Play WoW until you lose your job, house, marriage and sanity from playing too much.. then you are ready to try LoTR :)

exactly what my mate did, and hes on the mend :) lol

seriouslty though, wow will take over everything, i play it now, and im at work atm and still thinking about what quests to do first when i get home tonight lol.
LOTR... im not to sure about though, i never actually playes past the beta, which i couldnt stand btw, played for like 2 days and then i went off it completley. apart from that its a good gameplay and scenario.

I think you'll find PvP gankers do :p

Some people like PvP, other dont.

I prefer co-op PVE tbh.

Call me crazy but I like having the option of not being mullered by idiot 12 year olds who don't go to school and just spend 18 hours a day bounding around like an ADD kitten shouting kekeke or MeLoveYou and ganking people questing with their bloody undead rogue.

I won't deny PVP is pretty funny, and I am quite good at it, but I have an alt on a pvp server and just walking through a zone you can pretty much guarantee there is gunna be someone who thinks its funny to stealth behind you and try and kill you.

Remember Feral druids travel in packs ;)

and to the OP - I have been playing WOW with the same character since release. I'm only now levelling my second high level alt on my primary server, Although I do have an alliance Druid on a pvp server at 60ish

Of course their being more PVP oriented could be nothing to do with it and entirely to do with the fact that there are a billion people over that side of the world ... not to mention factors such as Huge technology industrys incredibly cheap electronics, and an internet infrastructure a hundred times as prolific as ours.

also take into account that in the east they pump out hundreds of generic MMO's year in year out, Cabal online and RF online being prime examples of the end result of the export of these games, hands up people that subscribe to either of those ...

Bleh, no such thing as a carebear, thats just a difference of playstyle, I like people, non carebears like themselves :P

Er, thanks, I think

This is what worries me about joining one of these games :p Is there anyone who plays WoW that can actually describe what the game is like in laymans terms?

It's like you have a secret language that sounds like a D&D rule book :D

To be honest the PvP in WoW was pretty much a joke, sure in the old days, before even the EU release it was great. You could exploit guards and take over towns, but they pretty much took out anything that created any true world PvP, pretty much now PvP is WoW is confined to arenas.

calculate your Thac0 against an armour class of 6, meanwhile the ogre magi is casting a spell ...
