I'm not claiming to be an ITK or anything but I just received some interesting info from a colleague. He's a serious Liverpool fan; attends all domestic + European matches and actually has contacts in the club. He gets fed bits of information about Liverpool, but also through work and being close to the club he has ties with other clubs in the North West too.

Anyway, he used to work closely with a brother of one of the non-executive directors of Manchester United, so he has a direct link into the club for information. He even has a spot in one of the directors boxes at Old Trafford, so i'd say this is genuine. Long story short, the board, as also confirmed by Red Issue, are completely split on appointing Mourinho. Charlton and Ferguson don't want him. Woodward is 50/50 because he doesn't want to fail for a 2nd time; ala Van Gaal. The Glazers do want Mourinho. Apparently the £5m payment to Mourinho for not signing is genuine, but the United press team are trying to crush it in the media as much as possible because quite frankly it's embarrassing.

The general 'feel' is that United are swaying towards sticking with LvG for next season.

It really appears nobody has a clue what's going on at the moment, clearly Mourinho is being considered, but how seriously is anyone's guess.

If we stick with LvG then I truly despair. Yes, we've been a bit better lately but the damage is very much done.

Actually, a few fairly good journalists have said Mourinho and his people think he's got the job, and LvG thinks he's keeping it. What a mess.

I would actually stick with Van Gaal for one more season than get Mourhino. Getting rid of Rooney is what we need to be doing, strengthening our forwards and a decent center back. It took SAF 4 years to win his first trophy and Van Gaal could potentially win a cup in his second year. He has also brought in a load of youngsters in which have great potential. Some might argue that they have had more of an impact than the summer signings we bought in the summer. All of the big 4 have been diabolical this season but the difference being that United went into this season with very few forward options.

There are two managers that I would love to see at United and that is Ancelotti and Klopp and fat chance we are going to get any of those in the future.

Given that there don't seem to be any other realistic targets, it does look that the options are stick with LVG or go for Mourinho.

Some of the football under LVG has been absolutely dire and I can see why a lot fans would want him out asap. But I do think things are also now going in the right direction and for the first time in a long time there's some very promising youngsters getting a chance in the team.

I'd quite like to see him stay on for another year too, rather than move for Mourinho who despite his track record for success, still has the potential to leave the club with an even worse rebuilding job on their hands in a few years time. I guess a lot will depend on who Man U see themselves moving for in a years time, if they do decide to stick with LVG for another year.

The problem as i see it with sticking with LvG for a final year is that there's no guarantee of getting a decent manager when he leaves. By that time Mourinho will be at another club, a few of the big names will have have only moved to new teams in the past year and hoping that they could get any of the others would be a gamble.

A few problems with that from my way of thinking

The quality of the football isnt going to get any better, and the results are unlikely to (consistantly) - along with Liverpool, Chelsea and potentially those teams like West Ham getting a lot stronger (with Klopp esp given a summer /pre-season its likely Liverpool will get a lot stronger), Utd could potentially be fighting to stay in the top 10 under LvG at the end of next season.

Its going to be difficult enough to get a few top quality players that Utd desperately need (along with some decent prospects) with Mourinho at the helm if Utd miss out on CL next season, with LvG we will have no hope at all (the majority of the .

What top level manager (apart from Benitez!!!) will be available in a season's time , while the romantic in me would like Giggs or Neville , that would be a mistake after 2 highly experienced managers have shown to struggle badly with the enormity of the club. Even if those ex players know the club much much better, its too big a task (and risk from the clubs point of view) for effectively novice managers.

LVG does not have the fans or players backing.

its not that we've had good performances but been unlucky results wise. We've been shocking in performance and besn relatively lucky to win some of the games we have.

It's no lie that we have only 43 goals in the EPL some 15-20 less than the teams around us.

Or that we got dumped out of the champions league - while getting the easiest group of them all.

We've been lucky to get to the FA cup final.

LVG's attitude that we expect too much is atrocious. The simple fact is that he's had 2 seasons and hundreds of millions to spend. His expectations that we shouldn't be challenging for the EPL is too low. Mourinho would say we should be. It's LVG fault tjat we are not. Hence he should go and accept he has not done the job required.

LVG said United would win the PL within three seasons. We're nowhere near that and this year was the best opportunity and we're dangling around 5th place playing football almost as bad as Villa. Had enough of his big mouth bull ****. Please just go with a fat check in hand

Van Gogh?

I think so now after now beating Leicester that was the final straw for me nevermind Fergoe throwing down his sausage at Spurs i said and said either Arsenal or City would drop points and we would have a chance to overtake and as i thought it was City with thier eyes on the Real Madrid game that lost.

Sadly i reckon thats it now for us, And i really wanted De Gea to stay but with them muppets in the final now they will surely be calling him boasting about the winners medals. Gits god sake Louis how the hell do you draw with Leicester without Vardy they are a four man team and one of them is Ranieri. Cant beat a three man team at home LOL.

If I was a united fan, I'd want him out. He's moody, boring and offensive.

He also has some GREAT players - Rashford, Carrickk, Rooney, De Gea, Smalling, Memphis...

He's literally the only Dutch person I've ever seen on camera or in person who isn't just ACE

His English is crappy too! My question is how much do you have to pay him to leave?

Sorry - you're right, great is an exaggeration. My point is that I believe he has a decent squad. Of course, not comparable to City.

The only great player on that list is De Gea, and it's increasingly unlikely he'll be there next season. He may have signed a new contract but potentially no CL? Surely one of the big two Spanish sides will splash the cash.

I'd love LvG to stay on :D

It's no exaggeration to say Moyes was better.

Hoped this thread was about a new football board game. They only way Van Go will leave is if they hang him in the Rijksmuseum. :p

Jose's pet dog is reporting that Utd have asked Mourinho to takeover next summer :p

Thankfully Mourinho won't consider that, I suspect.

If 5th gets rid of LvG then I'll be happy to have no CL football. The reality is he should be going regardless. :(

Its scary that he is still in a job at the moment. Its just completely unthinkable that he could be here come next season. If his minimum target was 4th place then he will have failed miserably.

Considering Chelsea, City and Arsenal have all been poor to atrocious we should have been easily competing for the title this season. To miss 4th when Chelsea are out of the picture and City have been nearly as bad as us this year is just unforgivable.

If LvG is here next year then Moyes should sue for unfair dismissal. Moyes would genuinely have us doing better right now and thats something I never though I would say.

2-3 years of Mourinho would do us the world of good and if he implodes who cares. As it stands we have had 3 years of utter ****, money peed up the wall and we are no better than when moyes took over. Top players won't want to come here and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose the few top players we do have.

We stick with LvG for another year and we miss out on CL football almost guaranteed as well as wasting more money, time and all for the benefit of hoping a top manager magically becomes available next summer.

Oh, and there will almost certainly be a mutiny amongst the fans

To be fair, whilst Mourinho would get results, it's still not the type of football the fans would be looking for.
