Louis Van Gone / Jose Mourinho set to be announced as Man Utd manager this week - BBC

I'm not sure they're daft. No matter what side of the fence you're on with Mourinho, I think it's fair to say there are quite clear reasons why a club would be hesitant in appointing him or at least would prefer other elite managers that don't have the baggage & 3 season meltdown.

There are certainly negatives, but plenty of positives too. Most managers have had problems at one point or another.

I'm hopeful, and think this is pretty much the best appointment we could have made. Time will tell if that's the case.

And they are definitely daft, they went for David Moyes for goodness sake.

There were probably 3 managers that we would have preferred over Mourinho and none of them were available. The fact that none of them were available is in large part due to our incompetence and pussy footing around.

Its amazing how Bayern manager to do all their transfer business and get new managers in with 0 fuss and in good time. We stuck with a manager who was clearly not top class any more for far too long. We waited for Fergie to retire and hoped that a completely unproven manager would do. Other top teams plan years in advance, we barely seem to plan months in advance.

Anyway! I am really looking forward to next season already and hopefully we will be back competing for titles asap and playing some good football. You can say what you want about Mourinho but his Chelsea sides have played some great football at times. Even with rose tinted glasses you can't argue that Fergie didn't do the same as Mourinho in Europe and the league when he felt it was a safer option.

my favourite manager in the world managing my favourite team :)

though for me the only alternatives I would have liked where Pep, Ancelotti or Blanc.

Klopp, Pep and Simeone were my top 3 for long term, big picture managers. We ******* around for too long and missed the boat. Maureen would be ny next choice so I'm very happy we got him to begin what should have been put in place before Fergie called it quits.

I love Jose but if ever there was a club trying to bang a square peg in a round hole it's this appointment. It could be an awesome time but I just can't see him changing. Liked his comments on Rooney, laying down who is in charge from the get go.

Anyway, great to have him back.

I dunno, LvG was pretty entertaining.

Curious as to what made you want Blanc. He hasn't done anything of note with PSG. Being fair you would have to say that he drastically underachieved in the only competition where there was any competition for them.

history with united, played a decent brand of football with PSG.

Not very high up my list, just didn't want Giggs anywhere near the job.........yet

I liked his press conference. Particularly the bit about Rooney. I'm happy with the signings we've made so far. I don't like some of the stuff he's done in the past but there are very few managers I'd have had ahead of him. Personally Pep wouldn't have been one.

I wouldn't have wanted United to pay tons for him but on a free I certainly think he's worth having.

At the least, Rashford and Martial learn from a legend of the game for a year.

Keep any chat in this thread on the topic of Mourinho getting the Utd job and his unveiling. Any more general Man Utd chat and this gets closed.

Well where are we allowed to discuss the things he talked about in his press conference? The other thread was closed. Are we just not allowed to talk about it?

The rule is a bit ridiculous. We are talking about the topics that are related to his appointment as United manager and the result of that.
