Luton airport...

OK so are we saying if someone drives their car into my house and my house falls down, the person's car insurance company is not liable even if it was their fault? How do you deem someone to be at fault?
Proven speeding at the time = fault? Does that mean insurers can void the claim and make someone pay for a house? At that point I would have to claim on my insurance and take them to court? How does it all work!?

This actually happened to me (house didn't fall down though).

We claim from our insurance who then, once everything is settled and fixed, they claim from the owner of the vehicle. The insurance companies then either agree and settle, or go to court and argue the costs.

lol its ok, with its regenerative braking it would stop itsself anyway........... (assuming it didnt spontaneously combust instantly disintegrating all vehicles within a 150m radius ofcourse................... according to the Sun, maybe ) :D

It's not all bad for you battery boys, looks like you may get a free "Mother and babies" style wide berthing soon, thanks to the nature of your vehicle and its difficulty in being extinguished when it self immolates.

"A Government-commissioned report has suggested that car parking spaces should be made bigger and water tanks could be introduced to mitigate the risk of electric car fires.

The guidance was published for car park operators, designers and risk assessors, with the report being for the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV)."

All car parking spaces should be larger.

Cars have gotten bigger and bigger over the years, and most spaces have seemingly stayed the same size.
Yup

IIRC the size of spaces hasn't increased in something like 40 years (same with what constitutes a "garage"*), and there are now dozens of models that cannot fit in a standard space, whilst hundreds more you'll struggle to get the door open if the car next to you is the same size.
It's even worse for disabled spots as IIRC the regs there only require extra room on one side so you end up with "disabled" spaces where you might have no extra space between two cars (I've seen some that go extra room, car, car, extra room, car, car, extra room).

*My garage was built to take an early 80's transit van, which it did with relative ease, it is however barely wide enough to take most modern cars (a couple of cm clearance either side for the mirrors), and IIRC a lot of modern builds were using a door that's 10-15cm narrower.

when i bought my house i would not have considered it without the garage.

then i tried to put my car in. after some faffing i was pleased to get it in.............. it wasnt a huge car, but was 2 door.... a 1993 pug 306.

my smugness soon ended as i realised i could only open the door 3 inches once parked.

some of my neighbours drive part way in, then get out of the car and push the car in the rest of the way and pull it out again when needed. i cant be doing with that (and couldnt do that now anyway)

i had to get in my car through the passenger door the other day because someone parked next to me. they technically did nothing wrong, they were in their white line, albeit touching it, thus giving them as much room their side as possible.

but it gave me zero chance of opening my car door.

Could I interest you in a 1981 Ford Transit by any chance my dear boy? In white, sliding passenger side door, single rear wheel, diesel, ex Ford main dealer parts van. Needs minor restoration? Not ULEZ or whatever it's called compliant. Of that I'm sure and could warrant, all else as seen. ;)

Sounds like a proper diesel, smokes like a proper diesel, smells like a proper diesel, a wonderful machine and a sound investment... :)

I'll admit I wouldn't mind a smallish van, I really miss our old estate when it comes to DIY time (not when it comes to driving it, it was IIRC a 1996 "economy" geared petrol engine that struggled with more than two people in it), but It'd only get used about once a year:D

Proper pick up trucks are very handy, not these modern ridiculous crew cab things with a 4 foot long bed, twin wheel Transit size ones, as a tipper even better, they are so handy if you need to move sand, stone or large heavy objects, and you can do a bit of Tarmacadaming on the side ;)

Everytime I see these huge SUV type vehicles, the monsters, all i think of is how the heck do they park these things and not have to squeeze out or go searching the very corner of car parks for a double empty space. Horrible. Surely these people go shopping in them at some point?

you hit the nail on the head...... i park as far away as possible from the shop. i must admit i do miss having a smaller car, but the amount of crap we have to lug around when we go away with the (not so) little one, having a bigger car comes into its own then. i also like not having to have a roof rack like i had to on our old car.

truth is tho i did that when i had my little 2 seater as well..... big car or little car some wazzocks do not give 2 hoots and will happily open their car door on your car regardless of space.

my yellow fait coupe in my sig below when you looked at it in the right light was covered in dents from tossers opening their car doors on it. i even saw some doing it once and they did not give a monkeys. and that wasnt a large car either (shared a chassis with the fait tipo)

once we have more dense solid state batteries, we should be able to return to smaller lighter higher wltp/mpg cars with better visibility, where you don't need a reversing camera

This has no doubt come right at the back end of car fire in Luton airport.
no - need to look at the earlier linked norway report with concerns about pollutants in the atmosphere after their car park fire with many ev's https://youtu.be/-6juEM8UTsc?t=1065

Batteries have literally nothing to do with the **** rear visibility out the back of modern cars.
indeed...... i dont half read some BS these days, both online and in the press.
i suspect the rear visibility in cars, whilst partly due to the looks, it will mostly be due to the drag co-efficient, and efficiency should be a thing in all cars not just EVs. personally, off side mirrors i would not want them to be cameras as i like the proper 3D image, but there is an argument to be made imo for ditching the rear view window all together and just using a camera. Sadly my car didnt come with it so i have to put up with a small back window, but having seen the optional rear view camera, that is fantastic and i would happily use that were it on my car (and that means the rear window can go all together)

I love burning stuff, perhaps some tyres that the tip refuse later? Ooh, so exciting, smokey smokey ;)

Then you get to rake up the wire cords and add them to the stuff to weigh in, luvly jubbly! ;)

Is Greta out of the cop shop yet?

12:1 AFR rules!

My wife's car has a pee poor rear window which is fine as it's got a rear camera...until like the other day when I was in a rammed Aldi carpark trying to squeeze out of a space with other cars poking out of theirs and the camera decides it doesn't want to turn on :o

Tech is great but my mirrors are never going to refuse to turn on :D
