M140i, Golf R, S3 - Anything else to look at?

I just don't get why Boxter is being compared :p

The A45 (and cla45 which was also being thrown around this thread) are 5 seater 5 door hatchbacks.

The Boxter is a 2 seater roadster.

Why are they even being compared??

Ya.... Anyway back on topic.

The OP cannot get a car without our approval. Can we all agree on what car he should get?

Not sure if serious. The adaptive suspension in the A45 is the equivalent of PASM on a Boxster. It also doesn't make any dump valve noises, in fact in comfort mode it's relatively refined.

Also it should be noted that an A45 is quicker round the ring than a Cayman R, so hardly a shopping cart.

You have missed my point but have again gone to a spreadsheet to prove which you believe to be better or at least demonstrate faster. I am not suggesting it's slow or rubbish for I am sure it is neither. I am telling you it does what it does differently to a Boxster and as such isn't as much fun if purity of driving is core to your DNA. It doesn't have the visceral feedback of a Boxster, it is by comparison a blunt, if fast, object. It doesn't make one better than the other as that comes down to what you want/need from a car. However, a Boxster and certainly 911 has never needed 4WD when running sensible power as traction is exceptional. A well driven Boxster would have no problem in most conditions, on most roads staying on the boot lid of an A45 but the same would also be true in reverse. My point is the Boxster driver will be doing more of the work and in turn, enjoying it more.

Which once again leads me back to why not save your money and choose a MX5 / GT86 then as they are equally as visceral / demanding? In fact a GT86 is moreso because it has a lower centre of mavity and less grip than a Boxster... which by your assertion must equal a better, more engaging drive.

Also, my point above wasn't directed at you... it was aimed at whoever claimed it wasn't in the same league of performance as a dedicated sports car.

Nope, not at all.

What the MX5 does as well as virtually any of the finest sports cars is, with the right set up, have fantastic steering, fantastic braking (feel, retardation and lack of fade) and a fantastic gearbox. What it does less well is go, sound nice, deal with the fact it has no roof or excite when the road opens out. I love the MX5, but a Boxster does all the things an MX5 does well and the bits it doesn't, well.

This can be equally applied to the GT86.
