M5 Insurance

When I got my MX5 the only people who would even give me a quote was NU and Elephant. Put a deposit down on the car, went home to ring NU to let them know I wanted to get the insurance they had offered me, only this time, AFTER I had given them my date of birth and all the rest of the details, when the guy was reading off about the restrictions he said "all drivers must be over 21", I had to stop him and point out to him I was under 21...

They had to get a supervisor to confirm the quote because of the restriction, so I think companies will bend a bit, but if im getting trouble on an MX5, you'll need a miracle to get cover on anything near an M5.

insurance co's are just plain odd , i can get insured on a e39 m5 , although if it was an X5 they want a tracker fitted? WTF! soooooo , M5 + tracker = WINNNAR

:p

An X5 is high profile, a lot of people want to steal them and strip them down. An M5 is... well, it may be an M5 but it's just not as wanted as the X5.

a friend of mine is wishing to insure an M5 he's picked up and we are running into trouble with insurers insisting on an age restriction of 25+
shouldn't he have made a general enquiry about insurance before he bought it?

Nah, it was dead cheap so worth a punt, and insurance will be fine, ive given him the broker details mentioned in this thread one of whom i am sure will sort him out. If all else fails there is DOC cover available from places like bell. :)

Slightly OT:

What's DOC? Can't put together 3 words that make sense :O

Drive Other Cars. It allows you to drive cars NOT OWNED OR LEASED TO YOU UNDER A HIRE PURCHASE AGREEMENT on your policy third party.

It does not mean you can buy an M5, pretend its your Dads, then drive it around without paying for insurance.

I suppose in reality, it can. Transfer ownership at a nominal cost of £1, change registration details for face, then drive DOC covered :)

Both him and I are fully aware of how insurance works, including DOC cover and all other aspects of it.

Anyway, question answered, thanks to everyone who replied, i'll leave it up to him to sort it out from here.
