M6 Toll Closed by armed police

Speaking to the converted my friend....
Yeah, I recognised your name from the Lounge :)

I can't imagine that many non-vapers would be able to look at that little lineup and easily figure out their purpose. Possibly the silver Ego-ish one, what with it having similar dimensions to a decent cigar. Or they'd mistake it for a pen, or maybe even some fancy medical device.

Anyway. Let's keep an eye on the UK vaping forums... I'm fully expecting to see a "I was the M6 Toll Road vaper!" thread imminently, and we get the lowdown on whether this played a part in it, or whether they just had a really bad stealth technique :D

LMAO a major arterial motorway closed for half a day because of a "health improvement aid for smokers" - is there a course that police go on where they learn alternative names for everyday items? Police fail again.

I blame the general public for generally being smoking nazis. The only reason people 'stealth' vape is because they don't want the hassle of do-goders who don't know what an e-cig is and complain about you 'smoking' on board.

Kind of ironic that a technique designed not to cause attention has caused an uproar as big as this!

Must admit I would have no idea what those vapers would look like.

I dont see the need though, I mean seriously if your that addicted to nicotine then use a damn patch.

This is the mis-conception that fuels the big pharma products, that smoking is simply an addiction to nicotine.

The being addicted to the behavior of smoking if overlooked and is the key reason why 80% of people fail when they try patches, gum, inhalers.

But anyway, I like to think of you can't use reason or logic to back up your argument maybe you shouldn't make it.

Basically what you're saying is that vapers should refrain from vaping which is almost certainly harmless to them and certainly harmless to those around them simply because the alternative it replaces, 'smoking' is dangerous and creates dangerous second hand smoke, and there could be confusion over the two (or worse in this case you get accused of terrorism).

Whilst obviously not on the same moral level, it's like saying gays shouldn't have anal sex and just make do with fapping because there are a lot of homophobic people about.

The solution is the same though in both cases, for the public to stop being ignorant not the others walking on eggshells around that lack of knowledge.

Maybe its a closet sexual issue they are too sacred to come out of the closet on need to stick a cigar shaped object in their mouth every few hours ;)

How about because a) from experience they're much more effective than patches and b) it's a perfectly legal activity, so people should be able to it wherever they damn well want.

It does seem that the guy who was 'smoking' it, was doing so in quite a dodgy way. If you're going to 'smoke' an 'ecig' on a bus, then it's probably best to explain to those immediately around you what you are doing and not be really shifty about it. The vast majority of people won't have a clue what these things are, and what they are all about.

I agree to an extent and most people are cool with it but don't underestimate small amount of people who have a "If it looks like a duck.." attitude to e-cigs. Last think you need is to get into a scientific debate with someone on a bus. Also 80% of the time if the person complains it's the e-cig user asked to stop rather than the complainer being asked to educate themselves.

When I stealth vape, I have the e-cig and bottle at hand, would never 'dip' into a bag.

Yep, doing it in a bag just seems a bit shifty BUT the only reason he felt he had to do it is the bull-headed mindset of the general public. The whole "stealthing" term has come about due to having to do exactly that -- be stealthy -- when vaping in some areas so as not to raise the ire of some indignant troglodite who doesn't understand the difference between smoke and vapour.

Hopefully this whole debacle will serve to, as mentioned earlier, raise public awareness of vaping and help bring the malfunctioning, media-fed minds of much of the public down to reality.
