M6 Toll Closed by armed police

What if it was an honest mistake? It's still unacceptable to go around summarily killing innocent people.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about how the police usually go round killing people

The shooting of Jean was a tragic mistake and has been learned from. I'm not saying it was right, but you can't expect anyone to be perfect.

As for this situation, i'll admit, if i was on a bus and saw something smoking I probably would be pretty damn scared. I'd like to think my common sense may come into this, but it's hard to know how you will act when you think there's a chance the worst may happen.

There are plenty of occasions where it would be unacceptable to vape, such as in the middle of an exam or a meeting. Its not necessary to do so on a coach, the physicaly drug dependancy can be covered if thats the issue, the having to physically do so is not a necessity its a choice.

Fine but people can do without caffeine but we don't ban people from taking and drinking tea and coffee in flasks on buses.

Just because you can physically do without something doesn't mean you should then ban it or expect people to refrain from it so long as it it's legal.

The more vapers 'hide' what they do, the more suspicion of it arises when you are spotted by an ignorant (and I use that word in the literal sense not as a pejorative) person.

Personally I wished people didn't stealth vape, and just explained what they were doing. If anything you might get a few people who didn't know about them switching themselves or getting family/friends on them; but I do understand the social pressures as to why people 'stealth' vape.

I dont see the need though, I mean seriously if your that addicted to nicotine then use a damn patch.

It's simple, nicotine patches are **** whereas a decent vaping device is similar to the real thing. I was a smoker for about 14 years but after switching over to electronic cigarettes quitting was a cinch.

Ah that's OK then. I can imagine the conversation; "Sorry we killed your son Mrs de Menezes, he didn't actually do anything wrong or act suspicious but it was an honest mistake. We're cool right?".

I could well be mistaken but I thought he was an illegal immigrant and ran because he thought he would be caught for that?

All I know is, it definitely wasn't the same 999 operator that handled my call when someone tried stealing my car. Otherwise something like this would have happened....

Caller: I can see smoke coming from a passenger on a bus.
Operator: Just drive away from him. I'm going to terminate the call now.

And it would have saved countless time and money, and maybe they'd also be free to assist people who actually needed their assistance.

It just seems unbelievable. Which is why I think it's a media stunt to show the world they're ready for the Olympics.

"Yeah, we cant actually falsely jail someone as part of a media stunt. I know, we'll just blame it on an e-cigarette!"

Well people suffer the same withdrawls from caffeine as they do from nicotine, but I agree its just as possible to remove the need for a hot drink to provide it by caffeine pills or red bull for example.

I bet in 5 years time these vapers will be normal and then will not cause suspicion, where as today they would probably do so with a decent % of the population. The very fact that a cigarette is almost instantly recognisable for the vast majority means they would immediately understand it, plus of course the obnoxiuos smell. The vaper is not recognisable and can come in many different forms as you showed yourself, plus the smoke effect of the vapour is different. You then add in people trying to by subterfuge "take a sneaky vape" and your raising suspicions.

People always have and always will fear when they do not understand. I had no idea of what these things did until this thread caused me to look into it. I have had emails advertising e-cigs from people I have bought tech from before but haven't even looked at the email as its got zero interest for me. Vaping would give me nothing, if I want taste I can get that elsewhere, I enough to worry about with a caffeine addiction to add a nicotine one as well ;)

May just be easier to resort to snuff on a coach ;) No idea if you can actually get it though, I know you could about 20 years ago as a mates gf worked in a tobacconists who still sold it then.

I just straight up vape big clouds on public transport/pubs/etc. If people give me weird looks I explain it. On a bus I'd probably ask the driver first if he was cool with it. Ironically, trying to explain usually causes suspicion, whereas just saying it's a "fake cigarette" as my gf always interjects while I pontificate, seems to provide instant acceptance. Once I start puffing huge cumulus clouds around the place their face freezes for an instant before realising they already agreed to it :p

You know, I might have to get a t-shirt made that says "I'm not a terrorist, it's just an e-cig". It'd make life easier.

You can get this one from a online retailer...
