I'm confused. My iBook G4 won't allow me to extend desktop on to a second screen, only clone it at the same res, but it appears you're running that display at > 1024x768 :/

I think F7 will scale it to the external display, and you can then change resolution settings from preferences.

Or just run it in clamshell mode.

Surely if it was FAT32, both OS X and Vista would be ok with it though? They both seem fine with my FAT32 formatted external drive anyway. :)

Just randomly blaming stuff, I do that sometimes :p

You are a godsend.

*blushes* :)

The low VRAM though of the iBook can make using OSX a bit clunky

The devices are made by a company called Exernal :) I need a new sig anyway, perhaps I should put some effort into it.

Well then, carry on

my 15"/2.0CD/2Gb/100Gb MBP as it is now in clamshell mode with my trusty 3G 20Gb iPod next to it, tempted to buy a apple wireless keyboard to match my mighty mouse. Other keyboard is for my XP2200+ Ubuntu machine which i'm working on turning into a file/torrent server.

Hi Justin,

I'm thinking about one too, looks like I have the same samsung screen as you.

Is it 1360x768 resolution on the samsung? And if yes, does OSx allow you to select 1360x768 resolution please?

Cheers

Hi, yes I'm using 1360x768 but I can only select 1360x768 in OS X, but I think there may be an app to make custom resolutions. But otherwise it's great.

Mine's not usually that tidy! I just clean away all the mugs/CDs/bits of paper for taking pics!

Justin - Nice setup! What's the wallpaper?

My new Macbook, running through my Samsung monitor. Going to get a Bluetooth keyboard when I get paid, this wired one's full of fag ash and sandwich crumbs anyway :/

I got the bottom spec one because with 2gig of ram in it it's plenty fast enough, all my stored stuff's on an external hard drive anyway, and I've never burnt a DVD in my life! It all goes on memory sticks for transporting and external hard drives for backup. £130 odd just wasn't worth it for a .16ghz powerboost :D

It's sitting on a Targus Podium notebook stand thingy, by the way. Not as posh as the Elevator, sadly, but still dead handy.

Very nice, Mohinder.

Not to sour the thread, but how did you get the dock/menu on your external with the lid open?

With the second monitor plugged in:

System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement

Then drag the white bar to whichever monitor you want to have dock/menu.

Wow, that's great thanks. :)

I've been looking for a solution to this for a while - but I googled it one time and I read (as one of many tips) that the external could not have the menu/dock (at bottom) whilst the notebook was open.

Mohinder,

How do you find the Creative speakers? My ancient old Yamaha's finally packed up earlier in the week and I'm after a decent 2.0 set. Can't see the point of 5.1 on a PC - I've got an AV amp and big telly in the other room!

They're really nice actually, I'm impressed for £50. I wanted some Soundsticks, but I didn't really want to stretch to it, plus I couldn't fit them in my bag (I ride a motorbike and have no car, I wasn't stealing them!) The sound's good and weighty considering they have no sub, and quality's decent. :)
