**Mac Pro Ordered**

Is it ack' Ringo, I'll be putting this beast to work straight away!

I have a modest DVD collection, and I have a passion to encode them to play back on my screen, iphone and soon AppleTV.

Yes, I may have done with a 2.8GHz, but as I've sold my car I have the cash?

And when, not if, I come to update I'll retain more value!

Anyway, its all EVH's fault! Blame him. :D

Blogging of course !

We demand a review, pictures and possibly even video of it !

Is that the website I should be blogging on a daily business :D

Of course it'll be reviewed! Will need some help though!

hm... 8 cores and 2GB - hope you're going to stick more memory :D

Although I am green with envy. I can afford to get one now but I have priorities - in the mean time my MBP with 4GB is going to have to cope for a while yet even though I really could use 16GB..

How many slots has it got - I assume 32GB is eight 4GB FB-DIMMs?

Did I say I was green?

I bet 32GB isn't a hard limit, too. They probably list that as the upper limit because they only sell up to 4GB per module at the moment :)

16GB would suit nearly 90% of users, those 4GB sticks are double the price.

Don't forget, the power draw is significantly upped each time you add a set of RAM, so it becomes a compromise, and another reason I opted for a 16GB limit.

At PAC... why have more than 1 HDD? I have 1TB at the moment and it's very very very hard to fill :D

I suppose if you want to run Windows it'll be sweet to have more than 1 (which is what I want to do), but don't forget OS X cannot boot from a RAID array, neither will Windows

...which killed my dual (2x 1TB) array masterplan :(

Good to know.

I thought that the Apple sold RAID card could boot OSX because it could cope with the EFI boot strap.

This is wrong - Windows can boot from a RAID array.

Either way SWEEEEEEEET (extra e's for the coolness of using the he discount)
How long till windows makes an appearance for 8 cores of gaming.....

My plan of attack is this.

2x1TB In Raid 1 - Thus allowing my to backup upto 1TB of movies/music - Think I have about 25GB Music & 200GB Movies so with the super quick encoding I think I'll soon start to creep up the GB totals.

500GB I plan to have solely for OSX, and then perhaps finally a 320GB for Vista in Boot Camp.

Also, yes, 8GB will be on order this weekend!

**YummY**

EDIT: Or 1TB Raid 1 with both OSX/Music/Movies & then 500GB for Vista.

If I'm reading it right you want to install Bootcamp/Vista on a hard drive outside of the array?

If so, this still isn't possible. Bootcamp either likes to install on the startup disk (in a partition) or another drive. But when RAID is involved and OS X is running on it, Bootcamp is a no-go entirely.
