Mac Pro - Should I ?

Is there a mac pro upgrade coming soon then? On the macrumours buyers guide it is 60 days overdue but is the event/conference on 14th jsut for the laptops?

Hmm I'm that || close to get one. I think the new one will be announced near the announce of the Nehalem, however the new one will probably need DDR3 ($$$) ECC ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) memory.

So the question is, should I 'save' a few hundred quid on what I need to pay for the 8GB I need, or do I wait to get the snazy new CPUs...

Mac Pro's are wonderful bits of kit. I recently upgraded the RAM in mine as when I bought it I couldn't afford to, and got sick of doing photography work with 1gb :p

I'm now running 9 and the Mac is showing what it's truely capable of :) - The speeds of this thing are just staggering...what ever I throw at it it just keeps going with no slow down what so ever! :)

People say you pay a lot of money, but you just don't get the level of quality that of a Mac with other manufacturers.

E.G. If you take the side panel off the Pro it has a rubber sealing around it to make it air tight, so air is forced through the case, less dust gets in, and its quieter. I cannot think of any other brand of machine I've seen this on :)

9gb RAM?! That's insane!

hehe :p - To be fair, I do work with a lot of big images, I have a fair few 200mb psd's that i work with reguarly, so the 9gb is needed :D

It is mentally quick :D if anyone can tell me how to record my desktop I shall do to show you guys what it's like :)

i also scan 4x5 transparencies at 4800dpi. Thats 460 megapixels. I can /easily/ hit the swap with 8GB of memory :D

So, anyone leaning one way or the other on current MacPro vs Nehalem one ?

Im still debating between new macbook pro or mac pro & eee pc.

Whenever I do work I sit in a room with a 24" monitor, but an EEE might be too small to watch films/US tv shows on everynight!

Nehalem will be a good bit faster, but do you need the extra speed at the moment? I know 8-12GB ram and a 2x2.8ghz quad would do me for a good few years

Random question - is the RAM they use in the Mac Pro anything special?

The 16GB (4x4GB) upgrade is £2,700 from Apple but the same from Crucial (using their memory selector) is 'just' £657.98!

I got mine from Crucial. £200 for 8gb - yes please

I just spec'd my actual setup on the Apple store...

It's laughable that the 16GB I installed cost me £450 almost 6 months ago and it's still a BTO for £2,700.00

I did the same, it's scary.

If I bought a 2nd hand mac pro, that was still in its 1 year warranty, can I get 3 year warranty added with HE discount? If so, how much?

Has this turned into an epeen contest?

I wouldn't want to spec up all my mac gear :p

Infact...I will....:D

EDIT: Mine comes to a measley 7k. Justin, you're lying :p
