Machine dead :(

I can't just rush to the cupboard and pull out another high end PSU to test :p

Is there a way of testing the PSU? The voltages seem ok..
 
Even a modest psu if you have one (250-300w even) will be fine to install Windows with. Voltages might seem ok but fluctuations and ripple might be happening that you won't see.
 
I've no idea what I did, I dont think I did anything, but I am back in my original windows installation now and it POST's every time.

But it's not stable, I get about 30 minutes before it just randomly reboots :(
 
Maybe the CPU has let go? Granted in most cases they either work or dont work. How about underclocking a lot if you can get into BIOS to see?

It's a possibility, although would be odd if it was.

Had something very similar with an old dell tower server my folks use in their office a few months ago. Rebooted it and it never came back.

Then it just would not play ball, tried different RAM, PSU, HDD, couldn't get it to boot normally, in safe mode, or from a cd.

Ran some Dell diagnostic utility and it moaned about something CPU related so could have been the board but the error was CPU specific.

In the end luckily they had another server sitting doing nothing (that was a much better spec as well) so it forced me to migrate over to this sooner than I'd planned!
 
Decided to add all the memory (Had only one slot).

4 sticks: no POST
2 sticks: BSOD booting windows - PFN_LIST_CURRUPT
2 sticks: Anotehr BSOD booting windows - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
1 stick: Booted back into Windows.

Every hour something else changes my school of thought. Now I'm back to thinking it's the memory at fault :confused:
 
you ran memtest?
i know you are having booting problems, but that could highlight it on the odd occasion it does get in.

is sounding like the psu is a possibility though
 
What doesn't make sense is all 4 memory modules going wrong at once. So the PSU is sounding like a possibility.

Can you put just one stick in and get into BIOS and go to the voltage monitoring page, if there is one? If the PSU isn't coping then you should see poor voltage regulation.
 
Hello everyone and welcome to day 2 of me wasting what little time is left of this holiday period.

Voltage page in the BIOS all looks normal. No fluctuations.

I can now boot into windows with only one stick of RAM, and as per last night it's stable for a while then BSOD's.

I noticed that my CPU fan was running at full speed so I popped into the BIOS to turn CPU fan control to on - it was set to off. And... the machine wont POST with this setting enabled.

This is why this problem is driving me insane. Nothing seems related. Why would turning the CPU fan speed control on prevent the machine booting?!

Clear CMOS, leave it off, and we are booting again.

I was loathe to do this but I'm now going to dismantle another machine I have with the same Corsair PSU to try and rule the PSU out.

I will literally cry if I end up with two broken machines :D
 
PSU and memory swapped out.

My memory and PSU are not in my other known good machine, and the known good memory and PSU are in my machine.

The problwms remain.

Swapped back to previous motherboard and it wont even POST again.

Starting to consider the possibility that my motherboard is broken, and the reason I had a spare IP35 kicking around is because that was broken as well...

If its that, what are the chances of being able to get a working IP35 Pro these days or am I best to just upgrade?
 
News:

I am now using my machine. It has been up for 45 minutes and I've played some Burnout paradise.

The setup is my original machine but with the PSU and Ram out of the other machine. Oddly though the other machine is also working fine so far using the PSU and Ram out of this one

Next step was to begin adding hardware. I started with my Creative XFi XtremeSomethingOrOther.

And the machine refuses to boot with this card in place. SYSTEM_EXIT_OWNED_MUTEX is the BSOD I get. Remove card, system boots fine...

Now this is the first time said card has been back in since the problems began so it isn't responsible for any of the other issues I've had.
 
Talk about Gremlins! Sounds like a complete nightmare! But I've always had problems with my IP35. It has always been temperamental, I can run fine at 400X8 @ 1.4V but change anything in the BIOS and it has a hissy fit :D
