Just unscrew the covers and poke it inside with a screwdriver and hammer, then frisbee the platters anywhere you like. Keep the magnets. They are excellent.
Found this. probably a lot easier than using a PC and software to do it anyway, although only good if you want to sell on or reuse the hard drives I guess as it costs money.
Well I now have one less drive to try out that software I've got on, my 4 year old 80GB maxtor ata-133 decided to emit some smoke this morning, one of the chips on the pcb has burnt out, nasty smell when it happened too!
i work for the nhs as a techie and here we go through around 100pcs a week so to wipe all these hds we have a mod standerd hd wiping machine it does 8 at a time but takes around 12 hours per lot
plus the machine is like 600 quid so maybe not a option for the op lol
How sentitive is sentitive? If its work related get a 3rd party in to destroy them. If they are yours cant you just throw them hard on the floor or something?
cool, right well looks like a dedicated machine that wipes drives is whats called for. either that or the shredder \o/ i would love that but would spend ost my day shredding things :S
