This is ******* me off now. On what basis are they asking for more money? Where is this money going? What have we seen in return for the £11m already poured in to this case?

I'm not saying the money was wasted, I'm sure most of it went where it was meant to but these cops are just taking the mick now. As far as I'm concerned tell them to jog on until they can make a valid case for getting more money. As it looks now I suspect this money is just getting consumed down the boozer.

Someone prove me wrong pls.

I see no problem with it as long as they have spent exactly the same amount of money on every other missing child case.

This is my issue with it as well. How many cases have been close due to lack of resources or strong leads where this money could have potentially solved them? Incredible.

it's been 11years how can they have not exhausted all leads already... makes no sense to continue any investigation.

this crap went on for far to long, wasted too much money that could have been used elsewhere

one news article claims the find maddie fund still has 720k

The only possible answer to this request has to be no.

They wont go after the MCanns so the whole exercise is a waste of time.

surely they don't have any viable evidence that hasn't been followed to death by now, what could they even spend the money on?

My point exactly. I have a rather strong suspicion that the cops have found a way of releasing the money unscrupulously and are using this as a cash cow. They didn't even put a vague claim forward from what I can tell. It's just a case of "need more monies pls" and that's it.

I am inclined to agree.

My impression (Please challenge if appropriate) is that, for all pragmatic purposes, cases like this are mostly over within the first 48 hours or so, A week tops...

IE The poor Girl will be either dead (And hidden or disposed of in a manner that means she is very unlikely ever to be found) or spirited sufficiently far away that by now only a random stroke of luck will ever reveal what has happened to her (Like with these strange long term fritzelesque kidnapping cases).

For practical purposes the ROI on investigating cases like this probably goes into free-fall after the first month and after that any further intensive investigation is likely to be pointless. But nobody in authority is ever willing to face up to this and tell it how it is...

This doesn't of course mean that it should be dropped and forgotten about, We absolutely do not want to give child kidnappers the idea that the Police will simply give up after a couple of weeks so they can get away with it. But this is the 21st century, not the 19th. We have computers that can probably do a far better job of looking for possible links between old cold cases and more recent active ones than any Human investigator. (I doubt if any child abduction is going to be a one off) so we can still send the message that we will find you...!

But carrying on sending officers out to Portugal after all this time to "Follow up potential leads" really is a no-no unless there is really something solid and irrefutable to go for, really it is...

Sad to say, but unless major new information comes to light, there's no point in spending more money on this case when police budgets are stretched too thin.

The likelihood is that this poor girl was killed within minutes of disappearing, with her body most likely being dumped at sea where she is unlikely to ever be found.
