Madeleine McCann cops ask Home Office for more money to continue search for missing child

I’ve never used a listening service but I’m sure you’d lock your hotel room before leaving, did the McCanns ensure all the doors were locked when they left their children alone and defenceless?

9.05pm: Gerry returns to the apartment through the unlocked patio doors to check on the children. Earlier that week, the McCanns had used a key to go in through the front door next to the children's bedroom but, worrying the noise might wake the children, they began using the patio doors, leaving them unlocked.

Then that’s it for me, they left their children alone and defenceless in an unlocked building, how anyone can not label that irresponsible is just beyond my comprehension. It gave an evil person the opportunity to kidnap their child, it’s was a tragedy for Madeline and a fatal error for them. While of course it doesn’t excuse the perpetrator of that crime it does definitely call into question the McCanns parenting.

I pity their situation, the loss of their child in such circumstances as it’s nothing short of a nightmare situation for a parent.

I have a holiday home in Pera in Portugal, not that far from where the McCanns were. When we go with the children would I leave them alone while I went to a local bar, of course not it would never happen. This has nothing to do with the McCanns it’s just common sense, I wouldn’t be able to relax for a second, when you're a parent your first responsibility is to your children.

You ******* what?! Did they think they were on a secluded, private, guarded compound or something? Absolutely mind boggling.

I guess their flawed reasoning was that they weren't too far away

But the kids were still so young?! A 3-4 year old and then twin 1-2 year olds? I bet at home in their house they left sound monitors on at least, so why in a foreign place they think simply being close was acceptable is beyond comprehension.

I take both video baby monitors with me when abroad with my 2 kids, actually not even solely abroad but whenever we're staying away from home. I don't use it to go out and about around the complex, simply so I can sit in another room and still have eyes on my boys.

I don't get them. Not at all.

The amount of people who still do this abroad amazes me, they are having a drink in the bar with a baby monitor on the table.

While I don’t really agree with it I’d hope at least they’d locked the door to their room.

I can't say I've really seen it, last few package trips I've been on where to very family friendly all inclusives and they've actually had a babysitting service rather than "room monitors", most families just seem to take their kids out with them. Maybe I'm weird but when I was a kids my parents always took us out in the evening on holiday, I can remember staying up really late and if we fell asleep my Mum would just put a coat over us and we'd fall asleep on a chair or sofa, so I've done exactly the same with my kids. Last time we took our little girl away she loved the fact that as we went back to our rooms at 01:00 am we let her go in the pool with one of her little friends (actually most of the adults ended up in the pool as well as it was so hot), these are the things that make holidays special ;)

I get the impression their holiday wasn't really about spending time with the kids but the parents getting sloshed with their mates

I tuned out of this incident long ago but I was totally unaware that they were leaving the doors unlocked. I don't know how they can live with themselves, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything happened to my lad that was down to me not being attentive.

Some people get very lax when they go on holiday, I see it all the time.
Just watching how some parents round the pool leave their kiddies but they probably wouldn't do it at home.

Could be onto a winner here: 'Madeleine McCann investigation: police discover hidden cellar.'

German police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have discovered a sealed-off cellar after excavating an allotment site just outside Hannover, it emerged yesterday.[

Witnesses said they had watched as the BKA, the German federal investigation bureau, lifted off a cement block covering the basement during the first day of digging at the council-owned site. After discovering the underground cellar, officers led in a sniffer dog, which barked as it entered.

They had radar there already, found this buried cellar, opened it, examined it, now they've moved on.
I think they were there 2-3 days.
So perhaps they found what they needed, or more likely, found nothing at all.

In the guardian article I read today about the cellar it said the german police have CONCREAT evidence the suspect was involved in Madeline's abduction. That sounds pretty conclusive. It must be a such a relief for the parents now that people aren't speculating about their involvement.

I'm going with this. The lawyers already told the parents that she's dead. My guess is that they're gathering whatever evidence they can and crossing whatever i's and t's they need to before going public.

Perhaps, could that be the intention? A nicely purchased confession with plea deal incentives would definitely allow them to capitalise on their extremely god-awful parenting.
