Mafia - Forum game

flavour? wth is flavour?

Edit: Flavor is something to do with the theme apparently. Is that? Still not sure what you mean by "everyone is a Named "Townie"." though.

Flavour is when the moderator has elected to base the game on something - usually a book, movie or TV show, though I did play one based on the last Papal election - and made each player a character from it. For example, if you ran a Harry Potter Mafia game you would assign each player a character from the books; the Scum would be from Slytherin, the good guys from the other houses, and there would probably be a bit of a story about how the Slytherins were using Polyjuice Potion to disguise themselves as good guy characters.

Sometimes, though, a game will have a theme without a story. An example might be a game where a king is hiding from an assassin while the court hunt traitors trying to start a coup. In that game, the king would be a Named Townie while everyone else (apart from maybe the assassin) was just Town or Scum with no flavour, so after the assassin is caught the real king could claim his flavour to prove he was Town. That's what Named Townies are used for in games without full flavour: to confirm someone as Town without a power role having to intervene.

What I mean by "everyone is a Named "Townie"" is that all players in a full flavour game have a character identity. This renders flavour meaningless for game purposes unless someone claims someone else's identity - which won't happen in this game because of how I set it up.

Sorry man, I still don't get what the difference is between a "named" townie and a townie.

*sigh*

It's literally just a player who has an in-game name that in the context of the setup confirms them to be Town. It's nothing you have to worry about in this game.

We still need two more to start, or one plus Psymonkee. I can drop it to 12 if necessary, but I'd prefer not to.

Am I right in thinking that being a named townie is the same as being a normal townie (ie, they have no special powers). However, if a role cop investigated a named townie the result would come up as "Named townie", or some equivalent that confirmed that they were a townie.

This would be significant because if the role-cop investigated a normal townie or a normal mafia the result of the investigation would be "vanilla" (or some equivalent) meaning that it is impossible to determine if a vanilla townie really was a townie through the role cop)

Hopefully I'm on the right track here, but if not I blame it on the lateness of the hour :p

Forgive us for wanting clarity master. We are just mere padawans

Correct, mostly. A Role Cop will detect a Named Townie if being Named is their role, and a Flavour Cop will always detect them - though Flavour Cops usually only exist in games where everyone has flavour.

Still looking for one more for the next game, but I'll start it tonight if nobody appears unless Psymonkee says he can't play.
