Mafia - Forum game

Yeah, half the players would be killed in the first night at least, but then who do the survivors kill? Especially interesting if it gets down to just three people left.

Back by popular demand, signups are now open for mafia game 5! I will be borrowing some ideas from JeditOjanens game, but trying to keep things simpler. We will need 13 players to start, and signups will be first come, first serve.

I would be looking at having a mixture from the following list:

Cop (And 1-shot cop) - Investigate a player at night
Doctor (And 1-shot doctor) - Protects a player from night kills
Vigilante (And 1 shot vigilante) - May kill a player at night
Innocent Child - Is revealed as a town player from the start
Mason - Masons are allowed to communicate at night. All masons are town aligned.
Roleblocker (And 1 shot roleblocker) - Can be town or scum aligned, can block a player's role from happening. This includes night kills if you target the correct player.
Godfather - Scum who appears innocent to cop investigations
Serial Killer - Not town or scum. May kill 1 player each night, wins if they are the last player alive, or nothing can prevent this from happening.

Hopefully this would prove to be a manageable selection of different roles without being an information overload. There may be multiple of some roles and none of others.

Other things to note, mafia will only be able to communicate at night, I'm not personally a fan of letting them constantly talk. It forces them to make optimal use of the night to make plans. Plus if everyone was gathered in a group and pointing fingers at each other, two people going off to have a little chat would look rather obvious!

Any questions? Comments?

Put me on the reserve list Iviv. I'll play if need be, I can read and post but not as much as normal.

That's actually the point. One of the best ways to hunt Scum in forums Mafia is to look for people acting as if they can communicate outside the group. It's one of the reasons why anyone who claims to be in a Masonry, confirmed or otherwise, comes under immediate suspicion - you're basically covering your ass in advance in case someone catches you.

(NB: on the Mafiascum wiki they refer to Masons and Neighbours depending on whether you know the alignment of your partner(s). I find it simpler to call all out-of-thread discussion groups Masonries, confirmed if you know you're all Town and unconfirmed if you don't.)

Yeah i like the idea of being able to discuss all the time tbh. It's not like it really helped the mafia last game :p

Hmm, we'll see. However I still feel that giving the scum day talk makes them even more powerful, something which isn't really needed given they won all but the last game.
