Magic Mouse

+

I wouldn't hold my breath for a software update, to be honest I very much doubt any updates will occur, I have seen so many people bet on software updated and then they don't happen.

What makes this even more unlikely is there is no gesture which is going to suit this and they will never setup a gesture which is not natural to what your doing, I could only imagine a two finger drag down or up kind of like on the macbook pro trackpad, but that could easily be activated in normal use so I doubt it.

I may be wrong, but didn't apple release an update to allow gestures on older aluminium MBPs?

Also, the magic mouse does support gestures, you use two fingers swipe left and right to go 'back' and 'forward' in safari.

I picked up one of these mice on Saturday. I find it's very smooth to use but it could do with an improvement in pointer speed.
Clicking has worked fine with no right clicks be feels very nice to use but I need to find the right surface to use it on.

They just make your hand work harder to accomplish the same task. As I mentioned in the New Apple Product thread, they've actually managed to make the new Mighty Mouse more form over function than the last one! Ergonomically terrible, slow, expensive, but made to look nice on your desk.

I mean what's with the whole two finger swipe for web pages lark? I've got two buttons situated right next to my thumb that do the same job with less movement, and a more positive response. And make sure you're holding the sides of the mouse (Making the swipe even more uncomftable, especially left to right), or you'll just two finger swipe it straight off the desk!

Sometimes I honestly think Apple, to the right group of followers, could sell them anything.

One thing I do like is the control you get over scrolling. You can control EXACTLY how far the page scrolls by keeping your finger on the mouse. Wish all mice had that level of control.

I hate to say it but I think that you are right, apple need to stop trying to reinvent the mouse and just make something that works.

I think it does work. My old MS laser 8000 was terrible for performance and disconnected from my iMac aver 15 mins so that I had to restart my system.

The only fault I can find with the magic mouse is it's too flat, the rest is perfect (compared to the mightymouse). :)

Some people would indeed buy anything from apple but I would like to think that most people are not that silly. I really like it and it has made my mac easier to use. My friend has one of those weird microsoft curved keyboards which he swears by but I cant stand it. Its all personal choice and preference.

That's an unfortunate example - the MS natural keyboards are shaped that way because they actually take the human wrist and finger shape in to consideration. Some things are just a good idea regardless of established preference.

This is my worry.

Also, I've never used the swipe on the MB/MBPs because it feels so pointless and you look like an idiot swiping when you can click a back button or as you mentioned have a real button assigned on a good Logitech.

The back/forward swipe are good in combination with the 2 finger scroll because you can traverse without having to move the cursor anywhere.

What's idiotic about it? It's a pretty subtle movement. I'd go the other way and say that reliance on the cursor in general is n00b-like whenever there are keyboard shortcuts and gestures available.

Yep works just fine. I followed what they said, took 3/4 minutes. Then I just took exposé OFF being activated by F9, then set multiclutch to right swipe = F9 then put exposé back on being set off by F9. Couldn't do it without doing that because it'd just set off Exposé and not register in the prefpane that I'd pressed it.

Cool. Might be in touch later when I can't get it working ! :)

Hopefully someone finds out if the mouse can use more than the 2 finger swipes. ie pinch, 2 finger up/down, 3 finger etc

Only thing stopping me getting one is lack of expose/spaces buttons but I don't see the point paying £50 for something which has no real benefit over my current mighty mouse besides looks.

I've been using one for a couple of days and I love it. I went from the logitech mx revolution to the magic mouse.

I've always hated apple mice, but this one is great. It's not for everyone, but no mouse is. It's the only mouse I'd go for apart from the logitech ones with the trick mouse wheels as I hate scrolling on and on.

Only issue I've had so far is getting it working in boot camp with window 7. Though I've not tried to hard yet.

Mine has shipped and should be with me tomorrow all being well. Interested to see what its like, having not tried or seen one in the flesh. (Im great at falling for Apple marketing)

£60 is a tad steep for a mouse, but £1.43 cashback on Quidco softens it ever-so-slightly :) and Im sure its worth it :>
