major moral dilema....

At last a reply with some logical reasoning!

You are correct, maybe I am just weak, I should just tell him straight, I dont want the friendship to end but it looks like its going to, afterall, what is a person if they have no ethics.

Ethics are great, its what Hitler had. Tolerance would be better!

He's recieving benefits, WOW THATS WORSE THAN MURDER

You have utterly failed to see my point, he is not proposing to claim because he needs to, he is making an informed (and hes a clever guy) choice to become a drain on society.....that is my issue.

Ive claimed for short periods before because I needed to, theres no shame in that, that why it exists, to help people through rough patches. use and abuse are 2 different things, I suggest you go to dictionary.com and see for yourself.

Surely if he is your best friend, it would be worse for the friendship to lie about how you feel and build up resent towards him than just tell him how you feel? I don't understand people who pussyfoot around these things, you have an opinion, you shouldn't be ashamed of that and you should be able to debate that opinion with your friends.

Yes you are right, but my hesitation is that I know such a conversation would result the the end of our friendship, he's a stubbourn git and I wont budge on my ethics.

Its all quite bad to be honest.

If he doesn't respect that you have your own opinions, is he really the sort of friend that you want anyway?

If he's unable to rationalise during your talk with him he's not much of a friend.

You should be able to tell good friends anything, as long as you're being honest with them and not abusive.

To be honest, the idea of living of benefits alone at any kind of standard is ridiculous, its mainly the media distorting things a tad that makes the public believe there are people out there who have any kind of decent living standard whilst doing nothing but living off of the state.

the media doesnt distort it.
People out there do have acceptable living standards whilst doing nothing(bar maybe a bit of wheeling and dealing) and claiming benefits.

Maybe ive got it wrong, maybe I should knock some **** up and live the easy life.

Honestly, where do you get off posting comments like that?

comments like what? I fail to see whats wrong with my comments?

the guy is "considering" it

why does that make him a waste of space? you don't think its unfair that hes being labelled without actually doing (or not doing) anything yet?

Do you believe recieving financial help for a period of time (maybe a few months) is ethically wrong? Wow, you must be a really odd person !!

I was made redundant last year after working continuously for 33 years and I never had a day off since 1988.
There were still people on here calling me a scrounger because I had the embarassment of going to Jobseekers regardless of the fact that it was costing me £1000 a month out of my redundancy to live.
The moral police on here are huge.

Anyway OP, if theres a flaw in the system then go and exploit it.
I don't care that your mate may take money out of my pocket because it will come to a point where the Government will have to re-think.
If you don't want him as a friend because of your wonderful better than anybody elses ethics then you don't deserve him to be honest.
