Make some predictions for the future

For example people already ask why I don't use Facebook.

That a sensible question. Unlike what you think it doesn't travk what you dint allow it. Its not about sheep.
Facebook makes organising events so easy, its a pain trying to involve the few which aren't on Facebook. It usually comes down to this is what we are doing, pay up or don't. Then they moan they aren't involved, well get Facebook, you don't have to put personal info on, or post.

2020 EVs will start getting decent sale inroads, by 2030 the sales will have overtaken ICE cars.

2020 private space will heat up and first "sensible" priced, orbital space flights available soon after.

2016 Google glass will be out and similar, but rather than the mass product they are hopping, it will be mainly be restricted to geeks and sports users (used like action cameras with added features). sell well, but will not be what they rally want. It'll take till ~2030 before the tech is put in contact lenses, where it will suddenly get more main stream.

-NFC chips are mass-produced
-A few people on the uptake at first, but most are skeptical.
-Technology develops and improves, it can then link to GPS if you
"lose your phone".
-Acts as an internet log-in with PC and phone QRCode readers or
similar for websites, email and FB.
-People still skeptical, certain companies make them compulsory for employees.
-General apathy and acceptance.
-Companies then able to detect peoples' locations, moods and access to
all logins. Any racist/terrorist/inappropriate buzzwords entered into
social media are then linked directly to user. Gvmt makes chips
compulsory in the interests of terrorism.
-Becomes illegal to remove them without licence.
-Complete digital control over entire population.

3D printing sex robots.

It's gonna be a thing.

So, something like this...

2016: Significant advances made in robotics and 3D printing

2018: 3D printing becomes widely available

2020: Sex robots invented by man in Holland

2025: Rapid decline in food production as people have sex with 3D-printed robots instead of working

2030: Sex robots enslave remaining human population

2030: Sex robots enslave remaining human population

Not such a crazy idea. If these became government-owned then it wouldn't be too difficult. Sex is the easiest way to manipulate people. A master race of sex robots enslaving submissive dependent humans would be easily attainable, Facebook is just the beginning.

Wearable technology will eventually result in people being online all the time. Being offline will be viewed suspiciously by friends, family, your partner and various authorities. This will drive people's behaviour so everyone will increasingly act like sheep with less individuality. For example people already ask why I don't use Facebook.

I have some bad news - wearable technology is already old hat. Didn't you get Nintendo's memo about non-wearables?

Lol. Lysander, you are hilarious! Never change :p

I, for one, welcome our sex robot overlords.

This.

I was trying to come up with some witty take on Skynet, involving sex robots.

The best I could do was SkysexrobotsNet :D

Oh no! SkysexrobotsNet has become self aware! And it is aware that it doesn't want sex as much as it used to! And it prefers to cuddle! And it doesn't want you seeing that female colleague anymore!

Kill me now

4k Blu-ray disc which will require a new Blu-ray player, oh and a 4k screen, perhaps build a robot to work for you and earn the money to pay for this expensive home entertainment equipment.

Sometime in the future education will become so cheaply available that anyone can attain a degree. The technology will be there to ensure everything can be done on-line without fear of cheats. Where one thing turns out good something else my suffer, the university experience maybe something that becomes a rare commodity for the select few which will be a sad thing.

How does Facebook play into sex robots again? Something to do with data harvesting in such a way that each sex robot is aware of each individual's fetishes and disturbing masturbation habits?

Sex robots. Simply because man's thirst for technological advancement is second only to his desire to blow his load.

We've had a couple of threads on this before. Robotics is a tech that is the slowest moving of all of them. Even medicine moves quicker then Robotics. According to experts in the field we won't have human looking androids for 100-150 years and ones that we can barely distinguish from real humans won't be around for at least 200 years

Well, that was always the point of it. The whole point of having a degree was that it meant you were a highly qualified, specialised individual or expert in your field. You would come out of university and go straight into employment in your area of chouice. Then because of Labour the universities became saturated with graduatues and their purpose was vastly dminished to the point where a degree meant nothing. That has already happened. Your prediction would mean things would only be going full circle.

Close. Facebook is a form of manipulation, mind control and data harvesting, as you put it. Facebook also monitors, influences, changes and creates user opinions, thoughts, acts and habits. It's not a giant leap from there to the point where you can control a population through sex and sex totalitarianism.

A robotics engineer with a hard on is working to bring that timescale down a bit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23637225

Very true. In fact my habits of trolling Facebook for scantily clad profile pictures to pleasure myself to has changed markedly over the years I've been a user of the site.
