What annoys me isn't the price, it's what you get for the money.
The basic Silver sub gets you demos, videos, access to the marketplace, a friends list, instant messaging, etc, etc, etc. All for free. That's excellent.
What do you get for £40 a year? Essentially the ability to host games yourself. P2P sucks and I'd expect a Gold subscription to get you hosted servers.
Remember - online multiplayer is mostly free on the PC, PS3 and Wii. Admittedly, Xbox Live has by far the best implementation but what you actually get over the silver sub isn't worth £40 in my opinion.

ROFL's that aint their fault, that would be your fault..ie your isp. I havent had one single problem downloading from Live...i get brilliant speeds and im on an 8mb connection.
£40 a yr is peanuts tbh, if you cant afford it then dont moan about it..if you want free then just get the silver service.
I've not used market place for a while now , so maybe it's changed. But last time I checked , there were ad's on market place. Surely it should be the ads subsidising the silver users.
Besides that , if the gold members are paying for all of the microsoft hosted stuff , then surely the sub is set up backwards and should be
Gold= Online play + market place + everything else that uses their servers and cost them money.
Silver= Basic p2p online play , no downloads , no messaging etc.
tbh, I probably spend more than that on peanuts each year as well.

Unless a popular demo gets released. That is the only thing I don't like about it.

i bet it wont be free for ever(not with sony), its free at the moment to try and catch up on Xbox live

I'd hope it wouldn't become free, it would no doubt go from being an excellent service to a hideously useless one.

Soon as it becomes free the xbox live will become **** think of the idiots you will get on it the slow ps3 like downloads ect.. Everyone will own at least the maxium amount of xbox live profiles you can have on the box. I'm against them making the service free you pay a fee for a reason
Odd, didn't take anywhere near that long for me. Or my friend and we both downloaded them at the same time on the same connection...
As for Sony providing for free, that might be so, however I'd take the £40 Xbox Live over the free PSN because of what it offers compared to the PSN.
If you can't afford 11.5p a day then you must be the cheapest man alive.

It will be free - they dont need to charge and nor do microsoft, both companies have enough money.I bet that if they dropped the £40 charge they'd prob sell a few more consoles

People always say "If 'x' were 'y' they'd sell a few more", it never works. Those people who don't buy it then only ever find a reason not to later on. A perfect example is HDMI.

Gold gets Beta entries and some time exclusivity. I'd like only HD versions of shows to be available to Gold members when the video service arrives too.
