Making Drinks at Work...

we generally dont tally up rounds we just ask if anyone wants one when we go, or whoever is about.. ours cost 20p a time too!

what irks me off is management not having any maners.. just because youre high up there is no need for the do this do that attitude.. it costs nothing to ask please with a request and for me i respect it more than managers who dont use them and feel just because theyre higher than you they can talk to you like dirt.

we just had a new director at mthe company i work for and in a small meeting a few of us had with him, he offered to make everyone a brew which i though was very courteous and shows what kind of person he is

At our place I'll ask the people in my dept (small dept) and if I'm walking past other people I know in other dept I might ask depending if they're not busy.

Though actually making it is left to the staff in our canteen, I just transport it.

Our canteen would deliver to our floor, like they do for the others but ours is "secure" so they aren't allowed (yet the cleaners are :-/)
 
Our team is pretty much split 50/50

The guys who only get for themselves never get included into the rounds. The other half of the team take it in turns to make for one another.

I generally make tea less than the rest so when I do I make the tea using a load of huge sports direct mugs we seem to have in the office. So you get less rounds from me but more tea per round. :D

Anyway, in 40 years of working I have never made another person a drink and nobody has ever made me one.
I don't get the 'tea train' culture, I want a drink when I want one, not when somebody suggests one.
 
We had a team member who would just moan and moan at not getting enough tea in return. It was so dull. Now we've moved offices they have been ditched and I fly solo. So much better.
 
Nah everyone too busy, we have boiling water on tap so people just usually make a quick drink themselves, saves messing about with rounds and waiting for kettle to boil and loosing someone for a tea round, some of the teams do though.
 
I make my own, gets me away from the screen etc for a bit :)

If other people want one as well, they come with me and we chat in the kitchen for a bit. Works well for us at least, good to have a few small breaks in a day.
 
At my previous job we did rounds (small office of 5-6), at my new place it's every man for themselves as there's about 20 people on our team, one of several on the same floor.
 
I used to work somewhere where not only did people make their own drinks, but brought in there own cups, tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk. The fridge would have 30+ open 1 pint milk cartons, and everyone had their own little jar of coffee or tea bags on their desk.

I would make a round for those in my team, but would have to wait for everyone to get their coffee out and put a spoonful in the mug, take it to the kitchen and then make sure I used each individual persons milk.

So odd...
 
I guess the point is not about who makes drinks for whom. I once worked in an office where nobody makes drinks for each other, but we are stilll very close. I made jokes with my boss a lot. But it's really the way your boss answered your question that really annoyed people
 
I've always made my own, I like making my drinks my way and if asked I always say no.

New job has one of those espresso from capsules machines in our office. I don't mind making and receiving drinks from this as they all come out the same.

Personally I drink water or Cola, but the rule is if you put the kettle on you make a brew for everyone who wants one. 3 Person office.

this reminded me of my first job where everyone brought their own stuff in.. i noticed my coffee going down even though i hadnt used it in a while and kept a close eye on who was going into the canteen... ended up catching the guy out but never said anything. every day for about 3 times a day he would use my jar of coffee until it ran out... then he went and bought his own.. first thing i did was grab the coffee jar he bought and threw it over the fence..

he even had the ordasity to come up to me and accuse my of stealing his coffee! i just told him that i had a full jar in there and somebody had stole mine too so it must have been that person

That seems a really petty thing to do given you don't really use the coffee, as you admit. You must be a pretty cool guy.
 
I only drink water at work.

In my UK office, I just get myself water from one of the water chillers and don't participate in any tea/coffee rounds.

In my San Diego office, all the conference rooms have a fridge that is kept stocked with bottles of water and cans of flavored sparkling water. If I am going to get a bottle of water from one of the conference rooms or am in a meeting in a conference room, I'll ask anyone in the nearby vicinity if they'd like one too.
