Malaysian Grand Prix 2013, Kuala Lumpur - Race 2/19

The 2012 car would need a new front wing afaik to comply with this year's rules. Parts would be a problem.

The reason why McLaren don't want to revert to 2012 spec is that the 2013 car actually has more down force.

Mclaren will probably one, two this weekend :)

I had this thought earlier :) Sounds far fetched at this stage in the proceedings but I have a feeling that we will sort out the problems before long and we'll be right up there at the front of the grid before long :)

Well all joking aside, Australia is not the best indication of true pace and the conditions were far from ideal either.

I just think that while we've seen some great stuff this past weekend, it's all going to go out the window in the next few races with more coventional tracks/weather conditions

^^ I know all that, I doubt it will actually happen. McLaren will persevere rightly or wrongly, time will tell.

What I'm asking is would it be within the rules for one (or both) drivers to use the 2013 car in FP1 to help develop it, then switch to the (probably faster and more consistent) 2012 car for FP2 onwards?

No, there's a chassis limit. Can't even have a spare car fully built these days.

Anyone else here find David Coulthard's repeated use of the term "KL" particularly annoying, I know I do.

Just wondered if I'm on my own here :p

Assuming it's Kuala Lumpur he's referring to, and it's not just the way he says, it's a very common abbreviation. I've numerous relatives who live there and I don't think i've ever heard them refer to it by the full name.

Sepang is definitely on the list of to do's especially as M'sia is where the bulk of my mum's side of the family lives, it's just at an awkward time of the year - hence why we went to the Singapore GP in 2010 - as it was in September.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons!

Not necessarily anything to worry about. It usually rains intensely for short periods of time. Dries up incredibly quickly due to the heat.

I remember a few times where i've been in a car that has "driven out of the rain". I.e. it is torrential, then suddenly stops and it's dry, yet you look out the back window and you can still see it tipping it down further back down the road.

I'm just hoping for changeable conditions, wet and drying track ala Canada 2011 or something which will go in Mclaren's favour rather than a dry track would. Just hope that it's not so bad that the race gets red flagged.

I gather there are two DRS zones this weekend - on the two main straights. The pic off F1.com in the OP only shows one at the moment.

Garish colour scheme on this one though :p

I still think mc will be poor here.. Although I don't want a grumpy gf for a second weekend. Gotta say I am hoping for both lotus cars to be top 5 with at least one podium

Grosjean needs to step up. He can't really afford another anonymous race while Kimi does well as he has to surely be on his last chance in that team.

Someone said he didn't get the updates until late. Is odd. He soften faster than kr last year

I hope he does, nice guy, did well in GP2, don't see why he can't deliver in Formula 1, as long as he irons a few things out.
