Mags car is on fire in the pit lane. The fuel is coming out from the top and it's taking time to get under control.

Good job he never had the halo on as it would have taken longer to get out. Mags was very lucky.

Red Flag while they deal with the car.

Wow, every opportunity.

Currently the chance of a serious fire in F1 is what, more than once every 2 decades, and that's assuming Magnussen's fire was serious (I'll catch up on free practice tonight).

So about the same as a tire hitting a car then. And that's the only thing the halo will stop.

A wheel hitting a driver has killed a single-seater driver in the last 7 years. I don't think a fire has killed a single seater driver in a race weekend while I, and probably you, were alive.

1973 was the last one in F1. I can't find out when a driver was killed by a wheel in F1?
And my point still stands. Other then stopping a wheel the halo is pointless.

Took him the full 5 seconds under real circumstances to get out with out the halo. He was very lucky indeed.

I never mentioned F1. I said single seaters.

How was he lucky? Even if it dribbled into the cockpit it wouldn't have been a problem. Pedro Diniz was completely engulfed in flames and he wasn't even injured. Jos Verstappen had a couple of singed eyebrows because he'd opened his visor. Magnussen got out because all he knew was there was a fire and he had an engineer shouting in his ears.

Button on the radio complaining that the Renault didn't get out of the way.
Pit wall responds that Grosjean behind is on a fast lap and to let him past.

:D

Yup, people are acting like if the flames even touched him for a split second he'd have horrible injuries or die. In those suits he could have walked through that flame multiple times with zero ill effect. The flames didn't engulf the cockpit, another 20 seconds and he wouldn't have been harmed in the slightest.

Hamilton absolutely blowing Rosberg away currently. Went well wide mid lap and not good in the final corner either. 4th, 9/10ths off Hamilton and 4/10ths off 2nd.

Verstappen saying light drizzle, if that is the case will they send them out as fast as possible for final run rather than wait for the last seconds? Risky to wait if the rain increases.

Yeah, I think Rosberg went out earlier due to fear of rain. Thing is if others go later they'll be in the situation where they'll be doing their hot lap into traffic which isn't ideal. When they are all basically doing warm up and hot lap at the same time it works out far better.

Verstappen's qualifying is improving compared to Ricciardo for sure. First 5 races in the car he lost each to Ricciardo but in the last 7 races he's out qualified him 3 times which is really impressive when he's new into the car and team and far far less experienced. As he's learning more about the car he's certainly getting significantly closer to Ricciardo who himself is a great driver.

Hamilton needs a good start and a few cars between him and Rosberg. Hasn't been a year of good starts though. Anything more than one place lost and it is all over tbh.
