Man Points!

I've fitted wooden floors, replaced an asbestos roof on a garage, designed and built a summer house for my son, fitted an electric shower, fitted plug sockets, hung doors and tiled a kitchen in my past, i try to avoid DIY at all costs these days!

I was pretty proud the other week when I reattached the cover on a plug.

It had come a bit loose, so I had to get a screwdriver and tighten a screw.

The feeling of victory was great, I set off around the rest of the house looking for things to fix.

I found nothing else. I did for Christmas get a tool set though! So only having a screwdriver and an assortment of 'trophy' alum keys from flat packs has now been eclipsed!.

'Allen' keys... -1 man point :D

How disgustingly sexist

Congratulations on the basic DIY skills but I think women are more than capable of doing the same thing, so I do not see how they are "man" points.

Thank God for that, I was worried about how much of a man I might have become!

In fact, -1 'man point' should be awarded for every task that can be completed by any even half competent grown up that a man feels be should be awarded man points for :p

That's what they keep telling us until a situation arises that requires some simple mechanical understanding or DIY skills

Then you are the man again, until said task is complete.

My Missus is no bother to be fair, she knows I'm rubbish at DIY, great in the garden but rubbish at DIY. Just decided (will make it my resolution) to get some man skills as I can't rely on her dad, my dad and assorted uncles forever. That generation seems to have a good grasp and basic skills in almost everything. My generation (late 20s) seem god awful at everything unless they have a trade, then they are good at that.

Yea I'm 32 in a few days and have a basic understanding that enables me to cope with most repair/DIY situations yet my dad never did anyway DIY so I don't understand where my knowledge comes from and everything I know is self taught without reading books etc.

Somehow I can just look at something and grasp whats going on and why its most likely to have failed
