exactly - there is conclusive evidence that it was him that did this sick crime.

Therefore I say hang the scum bag and leave a hungry goat in his cell. I wouldn't want my tax money being used for his 3 square meals, gym and sky tv. (for god's sake prisoners have a few luxuries that us students don't...)

As others have said, words fail me.

It's difficult to say x crime is always worse than y crime, because the circumstances can differ. E.g., murder can be someone stabbing an old lady to death in her home or it can be a wife who has been battered for the last 10 years putting some lethal poison in her husband's coffee.

Didn't we just have a discussion re the person with no tax/insurance in a stolen car killing a child about how sentencing shouldn't reflect public opinion.

Seems the judiciary system disagree :

Public condemnation is one of the six principles of sentencing to be taken into account, but it's not the only one. There's also the difference between the conscious sexual predation on your dying fourteen-year-old stepdaughter and an unfortunate car accident which was made newsworthy, but (as far as we can tell) probably not caused by, the driver's not having the right to be on the road.
