A games developer’s career is under threat today after he ‘virtually teabagged’ a female journalist during a demonstration of a video game.

Oh dear.....

I have been both team-killed and 'tea bagged' in online fps games.... Sometimes at the same time

#METOO?

The virtual teabag scandal was highlighted by Mike Futter, a games journalist, who tweeted: ‘Friendly tip for devs showcasing games: don’t intentionally team-kill a journalist and then teabag them… especially if she’s a woman.’

So we are now admitting there is inherent differences between men and women that require qualitively different treatment for women? Or is (virtual) sexual assault on men less serious? I didn't think we were allowed to differentiate between different 'types' of sexual assault these days (maybe unless it's based on the gender of the 'victim')..... Or is Mike Futter actual a sexist peddling the soft 'ism' of low expectations?

And 'shocking in game rampage' presumably in an Fps or at least weapon wielding game..... really metro.... Really?

Note: I would agree with the proposition that 'team killing' and 'tea bagging' a journalist may not be the most professional behaviour for a dev regardless of the gender of the journalist context depending and it may not be the best way to promote a product as a dev.... Again context depending..... Perversely not all 'bad press' is bad for a product.... For example I only heard about kingdom come deliverance because of the fuss over its ethnic makeup.

Why is it alleged harassment? Anita Sarkesian got all sorts of horrific abuse from internet nerds.

Anita is a provacteur who deliberately makes outrageous and or misleading claims. Waits for the inevitable idiots to abuse her on the Internet and then holds this up as her 'proof' . She's also a two faced hypocritical bully as demonstrated rather recently when she was on a certain industry panel.

Men that talk **** on the Internet get abuse as well...

Well indeed. Similarly getting called a 'fag'. But you wouldn't expect either from a dev promoting his game to journalists.

Depends on the game and context now really doesn't.... .. Let's say if I was a Jorno playing a southpark game and was TK'd and teabagged by Trey Parker or Matt Stone as they were demonstrating it or one of the Dev's I would probably find that hilarious. Gaming is supposed to be a pursuit pursued for fun and entertainment (in the main) dev's and journos should take note. If you are playing a game where you are tasked with killing people anyway what's the (moral) issue with killing a team mate and doing a rather silly mock 'sexual assault' to seal the act?

This ^ feels like a lot of mental gymnastics to firm up a wobbly position.

How so? Games are (mostly) supposed to be there for fun. And if you have a game where your are (virtually) killing people anyhow what's the moral issue... You'll have to try harder to illustrate your position than that.

Amazing isn't it?

"We don't like her actions, so we'll criticise her appearance."

Back in the real world there is the real likely hood that her appearance is very relevant to her attitude. The observation that a lot of feminists are not exactly some of the better looking women isn't without basis now is it? A short weak man taking it out on women because of his own perceived shortcomings with women isn't generally tolerated so why the double standards for women?

It does make it less likely that any behaviour was the result of her gender as well.

I think it's a bit sad that you apparently find insulting a random woman that you know literally nothing about "manly".

Not quite a random woman though... By account's of what's on the Internet she's a humourless 'Jorno' whose take on what appears to have been a bit of a joke, not even directed at her, is a rather stereotypical example of part of whats wrong with feminism, games 'journalism' and media outlets in general.

I'm not sure how anyone can prove that either way, what does the average feminist look like?

Well of course there is considerable variation within the group 'feminists' but if you asked me on a random day to describe a typical white western female feminist then I might well say something about purple or other garishly coloured hair, often quite unattractive and often overweight in my description for a 'typical' caricature of a feminist.

Stereotypes are often based in reality but they are somewhat dangerous as they don't necessarily represent the diversity within in a given group even if they do (sometimes accurately) represent a considerable proportion of the group.

I do wonder if posters go out of their way to find stuff that offends/angers them? The only way I have heard about this story is because of the post on here.

The OP seems to be permanently offended by the easily offended rather than just ignoring it like the rest of us do.

You can let it all pass you by and act all surprised when actual policies are implemented that affect you based on the sorts of belief systems (feminism) if you like......

So....

They wanted equality... they've got it...

No problem then.

They (a currently powerful subset of 'feminists') don't want equality the want 'power'....but don't take it just from me take it from Labour MP Stella Creasy...........

'feminism isn't about women its about power'

(a rather telling slip on national TV)

(10 minutes and 5 seconds in)

They believe in aspects of a certain failed ideology whereby there is an oppressor class with the 'power' (men in this case) and an oppressed class without power (women here) any evidence that runs contrary to this narrative can be dismissed out of hand.

The seek to institute systemic change to introduce actual discrimination based on whatever their perceived oppressor/ oppressed dynamic is (in this case based on gender or sex) to counteract the perceived 'injustice' they claims is present in the current system (which is often a very vague nebulous concept that often doesn't stand up to any sort of universal wider review of factors)

They don't want equal treatment for women they seek preferential treatment for women

I swear, OCUK goes out of it's way to find this gutter swill journalism.

Barely ever see any examples of it outside of here.

Twaddle.

I beleive the pejorative term 'normie' may apply here.....

I. E people that mostly expose themselves to more mainstream media sources that tend to ignore the culture wars currently underway
