man tools requirement

Depending on access issues and funding, sounds like a digger of some sort would be useful. Scoop up the weeds and gravel into a skip and pull the tree stump out.

funding isnt really an issue, I could just pay someone to do it for me but the thought of wielding man tools arouses me, got some mates coming over to help me too so that warrants a BBQ, which is about as manly as you can get!

I've convinced myself I now need rotivators, ground levellers and a cement mixer (its on special offer from M&M tool rental!)

check got that, got most gardening hand tools just lacking the real man tools, checked out the price of them and wondered where it became more cost effective to actually own the tool rather than renting :)

I see. Don't forget to compare your time + rentals + purchases against just hiring someone to do the whole thing.

Edit - forget that then.

Stump grinders are really nasty fcukers. I would only use one as a last resort.
Do you specifically need anything where the old trees are? If not dig down 2 feet or so and chop/saw off trunk about a foot underground then cover it up.

Stump grinder will pretty much only take you to surface level with ground, trying to use one over a partly dug pit round a stump really really scares me.

Best bet is pulling them out if you can, but cutting them off well below surface normally means you wont see them again :)

ahh i see, my brother is a property developer and mentioned the grinder last night over dinner, sounded like a giggle, maybe I'll rethink that requirement and just dig as you suggest and chainsaw(?) the exposed stump. any chemicals to nuke it from orbit, just to be sure?

Not unless you kill the cow yourself, with said man tools, gut it, rub its blood all over you in tribal patterns and RAWR occasionally. :p

Another vote for the JCB to dig out the roots and scoop up gravel.

It could also do a bit of levelling, landscaping and heavy lifting etc.

Prob' work out cheaper than hiring all the other stuff mentioned and you can have the BBQ and drink beer whilst Mr digger man is doing his thing; at the end one could even offer some food/drink to said digger man.

not sure if one would fit down the side of the house, I don't want one of those puny ones, would have to be a big mumma JCB otherwise I'd feel mildly homo.

fire, no, neighbours :(

Got your mates over, all in builders outfits, using a JCB found in a cereal box all enjoying themselves a bit too much and giving each other confidence boosting slaps on the arse?

Gay? Naaaaa :p
