Mantle Feedback/Bugs

Turn off Hardware acceleration. see if that stops the crashing.

Latest origin update ~20-30 hours ago causes BL/browser to crash when a new battle report becomes available (don't think it affects everyone but quite a large number) - if you were getting it before 2-3 days ago though it wasn't that. Dunno if it still helps but I found that closer to release having hardware acceleration off in the browser resulted in BF4 running a bit more stable but I think one of the updates fixed that.

Cheers, I'll try turning off h/w acceleration and see if it helps. Can't remember exactly when it started in relation to crashes but I think around the time of the first Mantle update FF updated to v27 and I noticed it leaking memory and would crash after a few hours. But recently it does seem to crash at the end of each round and occasionally for what seems like no real reason with just the BL open and BF4 not even running.

I've submitted a couple of crash reports for FF but am just using Chrome in the meantime but will try with h/w accl off.

That stutter is normal when you first spawn and it can happen randomly on DX11. Very impressed by the look of Mantle there. Some massive explosions and fps didn't dip at all.

Yeah man runs a dream now. I would like to know why some it works fins and other it dont?

Very strange like

Yep, same here on an nv card. After the last few game updates im getting barely any cpu spikes, (spawn screen only). Performance overlay shows two nice flat lines now.

RE: my Mantle problems...

I got home a couple of hours ago, set BF4 to Mantle on Low preset, almost constant 150FPS+ and smooth like a silk shirt, no spikes... nothing. absolutely immaculate performance. feels completley diffrent to DX, much better, how i don't know, it feels more fluid somehow.

Anyway, next i set it to Medium preset, same again still getting a constant massive way over 100 FPS and running like a hot knife through butter.

High Preset, still getting around 100 FPS, but. now the Spikes start, one every now and then..

Ultra Preset, started out with good FPS and quickly sank to very low FPS with constant spikes, freezing, generally the horrible mess was back.

I'm beginning to wonder if i have a bad RAM Module that only Mantle is picking up.

0-??% depending on your system configuration.

It's not an across the board flat performance increase, in some configurations it's no improvement at all.

Even when it's giving little frame improvement and running correctly people are reporting a smoother game experience. Hardocp who gave AMD a hard time about the smoothness of there crossfire experience are saying even on single cards the effects can be felt. The real problem with mantle atm seems to be stability and only bf4 is playable to test.

So i gave 14.1 another go since the new patch was meant to fix a few things.

Maxed out 1080p with 2xMSAA on BF4 and at the start of a 64 MP Shanghai round it was really smooth and i was getting insane high FPS with my system in my sig. Problem is it dont take long before my VRAM is maxing out and thats where the stuttering starts. With vsync enabled its smooth until VRAM maxes out again and then i get locked to 30 FPS and its unplayable.

I switched to DX11 and it does seem better than before the last patch so i'll keep the 14.1's installed now.

One thing i have noticed is the options crash with intel graphics enabled that i was getting even on the 13.12's doesnt crash when in 32 bit mode.

For you Mantle is causing a memory leak, same with me. turn your settings down. it will work at lower settings.

Or just wait for the Driver / BF4 to evolve more.

Cheers humbug.. how low do i need to take the settings down? Im a bit of a graphics whore and like it to look as good as it gets :D

To low for my liking. Medium at best. to be completely stable. i found this out by starting with the lowest possible settings, found it was stable and tuned up the settings until it wasn't anymore.

I think a lot has to do with how 14.1s are installed. If you don't delete your old drivers; I'm not even saying using ddu; but just delete the drivers and reboot it tends to **** up the installation.

I know I had that issue; then I uninstalled everything; rebooted and the drivers seem a lot more stable.

I haven't booted up bf4 in a few days to test the new patch; been playing defiance and titanfall beta lol......not had any major issues after reinstalling the drivers properly

Ok I found an odd one.

install 14.1, no restart, load bf4 and play for an hour fine.

restart pc

Load up bf4, play for 2 mins, game crashes. Can't alt tab force restart.
It seems one of my cards just goes to 0% use and then game crashes.

I have done this process three times, each time game worked fine upon playing after a fresh driver install, but after a reboot it just crashes.

I don't understand why mantle just won't work for me, I am.yet to try DX11 bf4 as I haven't got the time. I spent a few hours doing tests and now no time till end of week

The crashing is a bf4 issue not driver. Dice have posted a statement on the home screen of battlelog.

Yes i get that.

But explain to me how in my case, Upon fresh install with No reboot the game works great.

Reboot and its broken again.

4 Times i have tested this and each time the same result.

Well humbug ur suggestion has worked a treat but with a lot of fiddling and messing with the settings. Finally got it working on all High settings with 2xMSAA @ 1080p and wow it runs like a dream now. Solid 60fps with vsync enabled and thats even on a shanghai 64 player full round. With these settings im seeing around 2.4GB VRAM used and if i use 4xMSAA it'll be around 2.8GB VRAM and still a good solid 60fps with an odd dip in the high 50's :D

I have switched back to running my 2 1080p monitors from my 7950 and now the 300/150 idle clocks are back when in Extended Desktop Mode.

I cant believe how smooth Mantle is running even in the most intense dusty parts of Shanghai.

Thanks for this awesome tip humbug. I never thought lowering the settings would actually fix my issue. Cheers man :D

On a side note i was getting locks ups running dual monitors until i actually went into CCC and set up the AMD Eyefinity Multi-Display. I couldnt alt-enter before this but now its running peachy.

Happy chappy now :) Lets hope they fix the memory leak soon. I just know Ultra is gona run well on my system now :p
