Many thanks to you chaps :)

That's a different story then, you if you catch a 172 napping in a high gear and you're already on the move, a curl of the toes in 5th gear and yeah you'll be away - as said Fabias have fantastic torque and ingear acceleration. By the time he's dropped a couple of cogs, you'll have left him coughing black smoke ;)

6th :p

Watching him get further and further back was nice i can tell you. Im pretty sure he was trying though, as i noticed i was going a wee bit over the speed limit and needed to leave at the next exit so pulled into the left hand lane behind other cars and slowed to 70mph...5 seconds later the guy zooms past me with his mate sort of looking at me with that sort of "we had you pal" face as they went past and i turned left.

ah come on matey, just a poke of fun...

Its a nice car and i'm happy for you, but lets get to grips with "extremely quick".

Extremely quick (for an umodded road car) is 60 in <6, 6-8 is quick, and >8 is warm.

Walls of torque help massively, and the VRs has torque, but again my point was with the "extremely quick" reference which doesnt apply to the VRs, but its nippy and a good purchase... ;)

Thing is Pug, there's more to quick than 0-60. Whilst it's handy to have, you're rarely going to be using the 0-60 sprint unless you're down Pod and don't mind the fact that everytime you launch really hard, you're significantly reducing the lifetime of your transmission.

Why there's such a fixation with 0-60 I don't know, since IRL who uses it that often?

So 16 seconds to 60 is still warm? i think you mean 8-10 is warm. 10> and your getting slow.

Very nice car btw, glad your enjoying it.

sorry, i assumed that would be obvious, yep, 8-9.5 warm and > = normal

And Lowe, its used as its a handy measurement to quote. Whilst it isnt foolproof there arent many (any?) cars you'd describe as FAST, which dont also have a quick 0-60 time.

I understand the differences and nuances of 30 - 70 roll ons and so forth, but acquiring figures for these is very hard due to so many variables taking effect...

Im not too worried Pug, as mentioned above 0-60 timings don't matter too much in the real world. If it helps, i have read many people acheiving much lower than Skoda's conservative 9.6 seconds. Ill be honest - i cant remember where it was or what the exact times were, but the lower was around 7 seconds and the highest was just a shy over 8.

Does that make any difference to me? Not really.

It's a hell of a lot better than my Smart car, and if i take it easy i can do a similar amount of MPG, whilst the Clio 172 that beat me at the traffic lights is now refuelling :p :) :D

true mate, if i was to buy a car, i would buy a nice one that is comfortable and have some nice toys and one that looks nice aswell.

0-60 and even top speed, doesnt even matter (shouldnt!) in this country anyway, max we are allowed to go is 70MPH lol

/me is off to find a local skoda dealer for a test drive!

So interested in getting one of these cars. How much it cost you and what extras did you get mate? Dealership okay for a test drive etc.? How about haggling prices? Also whats your insurance like?

Sorry for all the questions but the FabiaVrs has become a good runner for my next car ;) .

from the pics it doesnt look like it has xenon headlamps, very poor imo

Because, they're a necessity aren't they.

richieboy, very tidy motor. Pretty good tuning potential too.

No worries. It set me back around £11,400 after some good haggling from £12,385 (base price not including metallic paint), which means i saved about £1,000 on the base price and got the metallic paint and cruise control for free. Also got a good deal on my part ex.

Dealer was lovely and happy to let me have a test drive in a vRS - was already happy with them as a lot of dealers i had been going to didnt even have the car i wanted to test drive, so was already onto a winner.

Insurance group 9 - it cost me an extra £80 to go from a Smart ForTwo to one of these, how crazy is that?!

The vRS is a 5-door only im afraid.

Xenons? Pfft. No thanks.

Nice motor, I wouldn't get it remapped straight away though. Give it a good 10,000 miles.

That way, you'll have a nice cheap upgrade in about a year or so, and will give you something to look forward to incase you get bored ;)

My Octy is 16 so I'm told. Didn't realise there was that much space between em.

Never been in a furby, don't think they'd launched when I bought the vRS. From what I've read Skoda are a bit conservative with their times for the furby and octy.

Like you say though, it's great when you see the look on people's faces. BMWs are the best. 'But but, it's a Skoda, you can't overtake me !' :D

not seen a vRS in the flesh yet, but do you think you can fit 3 adults in the back comfortably?

Not comfortably, not if you're 6 footers. But then the Fabia is a Polo sized car, and if you're thinking of transporting 5 adults around you should be looking at something perhaps a bit bigger. :)
