A wonderfully exciting and tense race full of action and drama.....

....is what I'll be watching later, as I found my tape of Australia '86 this morning.

:D

Ah well, not a desperately exciting race but a decent result all the same. Some thoughts:

1) Great drive by Hamilton, what a shame he didn't have this car at the start of the year. I'd have loved to have seen a full-on title defense from him. Here's to hoping he's in the fight from Race 1 next year.
2) Also, great drive from Button. Got the car home despite his brakes trying to cook themselves and managed to increase his title lead by a point. He needs to have an absolute nightmare in at least one of the remaining races now for Barrichello to stand a chance of catching him.
3) LOL Sutil. Hope he gets a proper penalty for that. Which he should do, given that he doesn't drive for Renault.
4) Ferrari were crap this weekend. Less said the better.
5) Where was all the derision on here when Alge-whatshisname pulled the fuel hose with him when trying to leave the pit? Or do we only get several pages of braying and hooting when a Ferrari driver does it? ;)
6) Driver of the day - Glock. In a race that didn't feature lights-to-flag excitement, his finishing place was probably the most unexpected.

Just face it - Rubens hasnt driven over the season as well as his team mate, its as simple as that, look at today for one of many examples where Barrichello got out raced (not to mention the handful of points Rubens lucked into in Aus, and in Valencia)

Thats even without considering the fact that Brawn have changed their brakes to benefit Rubens to the detriment of Jenson

edit - I feel for Rosberg, he was having an outstanding race until going over the white line, and while he didnt benefit he had to be penalised

Oh FFS you lot in here need your heads checking:rolleyes:...of course Barrichello hasnt driven better than Button otherwise it would be him leading the championship wouldnt it;):p.

Well, he didn't drag it the length of the pit lane and then have the keystone cops chasing after him...

But then he never got the "go" from the Lollipop man either - he just drove off from what I could see. The Lollipop man only lifted to stop it from smashing Alguesari's face in :D

A decent race.
A good win for Hamilton, especially after Monza's debacle.
Good to see Button move closer to winning the title. If Rosberg does move to BrawnGP next year, it will be very interesting to see how Button and Rosberg perform in relation to eachother.

TBH, at this point, I'm just looking forward to next year. The prospect of seeing Hamilton and Alonso, in competitive cars, fighting one another is mouth watering. It will also be interesting to see if BrawnGP can stay in point-scoring positions or will they go backwards over the Winter.

Good race. Hamilton did the perfect job of holding onto first place. Glock and Alonso drove great compared to their team mates. Feel a bit sorry for Rosberg, he was doing well. Button managed to extend his lead a touch which is good.

I know thems the rules but thought that the penalty for Rosberg was quite harsh as he did correct himself and actually lost time (no advantage gained) and he didnt cause or nearly cause an accident.

it wouldnt even have been so bad i guess if it wasnt for the safety car. Horribly unlucky :(

Great proffessional job by Hamilton.

I don't know why but i really don't want Button to win the championship :(. I think it's because it was clear that at the start of the season the Brawn's were in a league of their own and had hardly any competetion.Button just seemed to waltz over the finish line every race. However, now things have got more competative he looks decidely average tbh.....and very lucky.

Thing is the white line is just one of the rules you can't break.

Yeh i know. Shame for Rosberg because i think he could have easily finished on the podium.

But then, it is F1, and just one lapse of concentration means curtains for your race.

Its not really Button's fault that Rosberg went over the white line or Vettel sped in the pit lane!!!

He was beating the other two people in the championship race on pace (which is exactly as it should be) - so please explain where this "luck" is, because if anything its other people's incompetance rather than his luck thats got him where he is

edit - Vettel has also made some big mistakes as commented on today by Martin - incl Australia which lost him a good 6 points at least (and benefitted Rubens by at least 3 or 4 points)

I totally agree - however also look at it this way

1) Brawn seems to be better with heavy fuel loads (compared to quite a lot of other teams) and next year's no refueling should benefit them

2) the engine was wedged in this year late - over the winter they should benefit from redesigning the car so the engine fits in even better

3) Button seems to be one of the best at managing the tyres - this should become even more important next year with additional weight for the whole grid at the beginning of races

(Im too tired but Im sure there are some bad points too)

No **** sherlock...tell me something i dont know:p.

As for getting over it...dude you need to get over the fact that i dont support Button simple as that...and ill stick with my original opinion...he got lucky with a good car this season...the past seasons hes been racing he aint done sweet FA;).

Have you not been watching F1 very long? If so you seem to have conveniently forgotten him coming 3rd in the WDC in 2004 after Schumi and Barry in the unstoppable Ferrari.

Having short memories is a big part of being a Formula One 'fan' these days.

Button is/has been quite lucky in a couple of races, but to give him his dues his race today was good, if only for ~10 laps before his stop where he set some consistantly quick laps to leapfrog past heikki and barrichello.

I think he deseves the title this year, his 6 out of 7 is an impressive feat, even taking into account having the best car on the grid, he comprehensively beat barrichello for those races.

However on the other hand I think he's also shown why I doubt he'll ever be a multiple time world champion, after a brilliant start to the season he's been lacklustre, you can't do that and win the championship regularly, it relies on the other teams being a complete shambles...

1st championship is always the hardest (just ask Mr Hamilton)

Im sure next year will be a lot closer with Ferrari and McLaren being on the pace from the start , if /when Alonso moves teams I think we can possibly discount Renault from consistantly challanging to start with

Willams will be an interesting team to watch over the winter depending on what engine they end up with as Rosberg was very impressive today

There wont be a clear superioir team as there was this year (with Brawn winning about 1/2 of the total races, and however many other podium/points finishes) - they seem to have the most reliable car by a clear margin this year (with engine equalisation over the winter I guess more teams will become that reliable)

Brake issue has to be looked at though as highlighted in the bbc forum after the race

Buttons driving style enabled him to make the best of a bad race as he outclassed his team mate and rose to the oppertunities when they arose.
barrichelo would have finished ahead of him if it wasnt for button beeing able to take advantage of a safety car pitstop.

i wouldnt call that outclassing someone the situation played into his hands end of
