Masons get lean log!

Had a cold so took some extra days off still not 100%. Incline felt tough after the deadlifts. 5x165 felt pretty good so still got a lot in the tank I think. Who knows maybe I’m capable of a 200kg 1rm.

I was thinking of the last week before Xmas, going for 1rms. Just for fun. I’ve been training since May and have resisted the urge to deviate from the program, I have never gone for a 1rm since starting. Hoping to aim for ~200kg DL, 185kg squat, 95kg bench. Who knows?

If I get them I’ll be happy, after starting at 119kg bodyweight in May, probably around 35% body fat, down to around 96kg, maybe I’m 20-25% body fat now. Still on a deficit, I’ll be chuffed if I can lift those 1rms. Not bad for a desk jockey who until this year hasn’t lifted in 10 years. If I’d have stuck with it in 2013 who knows what I’d be lifting now.

Having a minor cosmetic surgery tomorrow, removing a big old skin tag on my back. So went tonight instead of Monday. I’m sure it would be ok to go to the gym on the same day but didn’t want to chance it. I’ll hopefully be back on Wednesday.

I was hoping the doctor would say I can go to the gym no problem. But I need to have stitches removed 2 weeks from now and he’s said no gym at least until then :(

I’ll go for 1rms in the new year.

We’re back baby. I’m down 1 skin tag and 1 kilo, which means either it was the worlds densest skin tag or I probably lost muscle mass RIP gains.

All felt rather easy. I’ll probably put the increments on squat and deadlift as 5kg for a couple of weeks instead of 2.5kg.

Anyway probably last time I go for a few days… Christmas and all that jazz.

Back properly now. No excuse to not be going 3 days a week again. I was doing a lot of DIY on the house the week after Christmas so was knackered.

I have eaten a load of **** over Xmas though. And put on 2.5kg. Back to being good.

Had serious DOMS in my upper groin (adductors?) after Wednesday so the squats actually felt quite tough.

Bench felt super easy hence doing a 10 rep set on the last set.

Good to be back. Hope my legs recover enough for deadlifts on Monday.

Juicy deadlifts.

Does anyone else hate some of the benches at the gym where the back board is too skinny? My gym has some that are wide and some that are skinny. All the wide ones were taken. And I feel like it ***** up my form with dumbbell press. Made my shoulder crunch with every rep.

I actually prefer skinny benches for precisely that reason...

Forgot to post last Friday. Pause rep session, was good.

And today:

Numbers creeping back up. I’m jumping 5kg on squat + deadlift a week until probably 150 squat and 160 deadlifts then I’ll go back to 2.5kg increments again. All felt good, except I started getting a weird transient pain in my left elbow, started before I went to the gym today. No acute cause just seemed to start out of nowhere. No particular exercise seemed to exacerbate it so that’s kind of a plus. I’ll just keep an eye on it. It seems to come randomly. I suspect some sort of pinched nerve? Because no particular movement seems to make it start to hurt. Just comes from seemingly nowhere hurts for 5 seconds then goes away. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve been rather lax posting here but I haven’t missed a session.

From last Wednesday:
I had some seriously ‘crunchy shoulder’ on these DB presses so just stopped, didn’t want to injure myself. Don’t know what’s going on with them.

Today:

Big lifts creeping back up. Not long and I’ll be back to 5x165 DL, 5x160 Squat. I only got to 5x85 bench and failed 5x87.5 managing 3 reps. The 5x82.5 today felt quite good. I hate that my bench is so weak compared to the other 2 lifts. Dunno just never been much of a presser and always had strong legs. Would love to get a 2 plate bench even if just for 1 rep. Still let’s aim for 5x body weight first.

I was similar to you a few years ago (relatively good squat and DL compared to bench) and was less good at benching. Two plates is well within your grasp but you might have to drop down for some volume at lower intensity.

Bigger muscles = stronger muscles, right?
