Mass Effect 2 Review

How is the new XP/weapon system compared to ME1? And is it true that there's no Mako at all?!

Oh, no spoilers, but do you use/interact with your team from ME1?

The new XP system is streamlined, so instead of having 12 levels for each ability you only get 4, but each one is like one of the nodes from ME1 instead of a minor increase in power that you don't notice. I quite like it, but you only get XP at the end of a mission/quest now and not from kills, so you don't level up as often. I'm less impressed by the weapon system though; I'm not usually into twitch gaming and I keep forgetting to use the cover system, but maybe I just need to get used to it. I hate the new HUD, the old one was far superior. I'm also not a fan of some of the mini games, but I never really enjoyed them in ME1 either, so it's par for the course. It is true that there is no MAKO, but there is going to be a new vehicle available as DLC at some point I think.

I'm not very far in yet, but I have had some minor interaction with ME1 team mates and I have been able to ask people about them as well. I expect that this will increase later in the game, but most of the characters in the game are new (and pretty good so far.)

Still not sure whether to buy this or not. Never got into ME1, just found it too slow going. All the reviews point towards it being one of this years best releases though :/

The same was said about ME1 though, so in all honesty, if you didn't like the first game that much, I doubt the sequel will do too much different to convert you.

Mine arrived from Amazon and am installing it right now.

However, no code was included with it for the bonus Inferno armor.
Which is the reason I pre-ordered with them.

The only game I've pre-ordered before with something like this before would be ODST, which Gameplay e-mailed me the code at the sametime they shipped the game out.

Anyone else got theirs?

Stupidly I went by what others have said in relation to getting games on time with the free delivery.

Still, other suppliers who have free delivery manage to get the bloody things to people on time.

Just not bothering with a bloody pre-order again. Not with Amazon at any rate.

I think it's more because Amazon are a huge company, and by choosing free delivery, they take more time over the order, rather than dispatching quickly if you choose a paid for service. It makes sense really, but it's the first time I've ordered something from them and wanted it quickly. The website even shows you what the estimated delivery time is... even though it does tend to overestimate, free shipping was showing well in to next week, so it was a no brainer to pay the £1..something for first class.

As I said though, I only ordered with them for the free code.

Other thing I might add...

What with installing two whole discs to the harddrive, and downloading to fairly large extra content items from Cerberus, I'm still not playing yet!

So bare that in mind anyone else playing it later!

Guys,

Does anyone know what and where the files are that have your previous character details? I have 2 360's and want to play on my new 250GB one but my ME1 saves are on my 20GB HDD... i have a mem card to use and did copy my save game but ME2 doesnt detect the saves... any ideas?

It's just the saves under Mass Effect - you need to copy one that's finished the game. I had a bunch of Mass Effect saves but only 3 that had completed the game.
