Mass Effect 2 Review

I wish they'd fixed/improved the fighting in this game. I really hate games when you have to fire a whole clip of ammo at someone head for them to die. It just doesn't seem realistic that you've got the best technology in the Gallaxy yet the assault rifle you have would have problems injuring a sparrow.

Finished now. 30h10m game time. Incredible. Just incredible. It bettered Mass Effect by 3x at least. Not one bit of texture pop-in or frame-rate trouble this time around either.

I had some mental slow down after one fight, but I think the object I destroyed got stuck inside something as all I heard was grinding and I went down to about 2 fps :(.

Worked itself out though in the end.

The reason for that is because at it's heart, the game is still an RPG. It's a hybrid of a shooter. Though technically, Gears of War is not much different unless you get a headshot with a sniper rifle or magnum,

I'm 16hours in and still feel I have a lot to do - kind of disappointed people are doing this in the ~30Hour mark :(

I'm 18 hours in and have not fully assembled the squad yet, and I have just started gettting missions from the ones I have recruited..so neowhere near going to the collectors system

its a really compelling game so far...and I expect lots of twists to come!

hiya, not got this yet, but will do. Was wondering what actually got copied across from the last game? Cash, items or just your characters looks and history with others?

Your character's history and choices are transferred so any NPCs you bump into from ME1 will have different dialogue options depending on your choices. No items are transferred as such but you do get a cash bonus depending on if you had a rich character in ME1 and also a bonus to mining materials. I believe you also get a XP bonus depending on the level of your character, i started on level 3 (I think?) when I imported a level 58 character.

Your looks are imported but you can change them at a certain time.

From what I remember I got this bonus.

I got 100,000 credits for having the rich achievement and for importing a level 60 I started at level 5 (4000 exp), I got another 50,000 credits and 10,000 of each resource.

No Items, money, levels or skills are carried over, you start completely from scratch, the only thing carried over are your decisions.

That seems fair enough, can't remember what the level was, but remember it being as far as i could go (70 rings a bell).

Either way, i will get into this after finishing AC II

Thanks for the reply.

Just finished it with 39hrs played. It's a great game but not A++++++++++ like people are making it out to be. At the end of the day it's just like Gears of War 2 - more of the same, but on a bigger scale for gameplay and plot.
The end portions of the game look amazing, but gameplay wise they are a bit of a let down. Oh and since I've been crazy about Tali since ME1 I gots her :o :D

On the 360 I had no slow downs at all, and texture popup with the game installed to HD was extremely minimal. Looked great all-round.

Is this game likely to make an appearance on PS3 thanks to it selling so well?

Well Microsoft Games Studios was/is the publisher of the first game, where as EA is the Publisher now.

I would assume that there is probably nothing stopping them recoding it for the PS3, however the real issue is that it's such a plot driven game, that it seems silly to play the sequel without having played the first. As MS remains Publisher of the first game, I doubt they can release that on PS3.

Bioware have unannounced PS3 projects it will reveal at E3, could be this, who knows. Bioware seem to dodge the question when asked about it rather than flat out say never. I dont think ME1 will appear as it was published by MS game studios, ME2 is an EA game and is possibly under some timed deal. Look at the other only on 360 games such NG2, Bioshock, GTA episodes etc, all 360 exclusive and now on PS3 so who knows for sure.

AFAIK, MS relinquished all rights to Mass Effect when EA bought BioWare. (It was published by EA on PC.) That's why I mentioned it - I'm hoping there is a chance they could do a Blu-ray featuring both ME1+ME2 on PS3.

Finished this yesterday with 27 hours played and most of the achievements. One of the best games I've ever played, it's up there with Bioshock for my favorites.

Just finished it myself, going to reply the last mission though as randomly one of my characters "had something happen to them" no idea why :/

Just finished. Going to go straight back through with a different character now and get the achievements and missions I may have missed! :D

Just finished, took me around 55 hours, but that is with visiting every system/planet to check for any side missions. I would say I more or less did everything there was to do, I might have missed something, but if it was there I couldn't find it.
