***Mass Effect 2***SPOILER THREAD***

What i mean is, they could still influence another species the same way they managed to brainwash Saren.

You mean through Indoctrination the problem with that is you have to be exposed to the reaper technology for an extended period of time according to the game and the books (Yes I'm a very sad person I've read both Mass Effect Books)

The reapers can still indoctrinate a species to do their bidding to an extent. Saren in ME1 began to change the longer he stayed aboard Sovereign. They can indoctrinate another species to do it's bidding but a mass relay still needs to be opened for them to reach the milky way. The keepers on the Citadel were the reaper's main link to do this, except Prothean scientists managed to figure out the reaper's plans and removed the ability for them to open up a relay on the citadel.

The reapers hibernate in DS and that is where they are their weakest. We can't take the fight to them (would be great if we could), yet they can reach us through a relay. Its too early to say anyway.

The third ME novel I believe is a major spoiler as it discusses the IM heavily and what he plans to do (iirc) after the end of ME2. I just don't want to go anywhere near it!

Also to infect an entire species it would take many years of indoctrination so it's highly doubtful... However from what I gathered from the ending scenes of the game the reapers are awake and already on their way without using the citidel relay.

I just hope there's some sort of twist in the story. This mostly comes from my slight annoyance that so much of ME 2 was recruitment instead of meaty main storyline missions I guess.

And now I have my silly unfounded theory immortalised on these forums I can quote myself in the Mass Effect 3 thread in a couple of years if it's anywhere near right and if it's wrong it will have been forgotten about by then anyway :)

Everyone survived on my play through :) Except Kelly the crew member died, because I continued with other missions after the attack on the Normandy.

Nearly all upgrades/prototypes done...

100% Paragon and about 25% Renegade. My imported Infiltrator character from ME1

Vent- Tali
Second Squad- Garrus
Shield- Samara
Escort- Jacob
Distraction- Every one other than Miranda and Grunt (I had them with me)

Really interesting watching the alternative endings...

Going to play through again with my Renegade Vanguard from ME1, will be interesting to see what happens. Killed council, Killed Wrex, etc.

Quite suitably, I think, my renegade character is female. Is it just me, or is that somewhat more fitting? :p

I finished playing the game last night, jack and grunt died. Still bit a pee off because Grunt died but I'm going to replay as a infiltrator this time around.

Well I just finished.

I got most of my people killed; what an embuggerance. Is it completely random? Because the only deaths were in cutscenes.

I'm gonna try again and collect as many paragon points as possible. Maybe go soldier instead of infiltrator this time too.

I don't get it, he seemed the obvious choice as it was a almost suicide mission, and he's only got months left to live.

Was dissappointing that he survived fine though and got shot, the whole point was the vents were basically toxic, I expected the last heroic breaths to hit the button that opened the doors.

Everyone else survived for me, and it was a fairly easy and a bit boring, found the posession thing a needlessly overused tool.

Great game though, I banged MIranda, and then continued playing, and banged Jack, tried it on with Tali who seemed receptive but didn't in the end, can't remember the reason for her not wanting to.

The only thing I found MASSIVELY dissapponinting in the game, was the interaction with previous characters and the inability to explain you were only working with them as you had very little choice.

Despite being made a spectre again, the council just weren't in the game. Seeing Williams(i think, forgotten her name) on the planet and despite being anti-alien in the first game, she instantly got all over me for being with Cerberus, even though I had two alien companions.

The reason it dissappointed me was, the total lack of importance of characters from the first game instantly left me with the impression that I didn't give a crap what I did to characters/with characters in the second game, because I'm now assuming they'll barely be in the 3rd game and will react to me completely irrationally and stupidly. I guess it ruined the continuity in the game for me.

The inability to have the same sections in the Citadel, aswell as the new sections seemed odd, and the complete lack of interaction, bar a single conversation, with the council and the Alliance seemed, well, again, ridiculous.

Its a fantastic game, but really they shouldn't have overlooked and thrown away all the characters from the first game, they shouldn't react to you like you're a traitor and they and the council/Alliance should have been far more involved in the game as a whole.

Then you look at the weapons/upgrade system, which was awful, required an even worse minigame in planet scanning than the ridiculous but more varied Mako stuff to afford things. The weapons gave no stats, had no mods, there were very few, most of the big weapons sucked, the upgraded machine gun, well I would never have taken had I known it would basically turn into a close range shotgun esque gun.

I really dislike not knowing the basic details, like a base damage for a gun and what an upgrade does exactly, showing you the new increased damage. Personally I would have just kept the exact same system as the last game, with a better inventory.

I was a soldier so had a variety of weapons, but basically used the same weapons throughout as you get most fairly early. The problem being a 30% damage mod, as you move into 30% harder enemies of higher level, just means the gun felt the same throughout the entire game. Making half my soldier powers ammo ones was lame, and the much fewer abilities.

Basically the entire story + a few minor tweaks with basically everything the same as the first game would have been so so much better, and yet, it was still superb.

Pretty much exactly how I felt. Great game, but I came out feeling a bit disappointed.

^Yeah pretty much how I feel.
It is amazing without a doubt, and some of the detail, humour, and digs at life, were brilliant.
My initial reaction of playing it was "What the .... is this?" Very different from the first, and feels like gears/halo. But I am warming to it now, and aside from a few irritating features I'm loving it.
I hope some balance between ME1 and ME2 can be achieved in ME3.

On my initial playthrough on the 360 I did the following because I saw the deaths coming from a mile off.

  • Thane for the ducts, even though Tali was he obvious choice. I didn't want to lose her because she simply rocks, and is my sheppard's love thing :o - Thane died later from a headshot as expected.
  • Miranda as the biotic for the shields = Survived
  • Zaeed was next in line to die and he was chosen for the second team leader as he was experienced. Zaeed died from a headshot as expected :)
  • Legion and Tali stayed with Sheppard for the final fight and whilst Tali survived, Legion got attacked by the bugs during the escape phase.

    3 Death's in total.
I replayed that level again:
  • Thane = ducts = Died from headshot.
  • Tali = to successfully lead the survivors to the Normandy. = Survived
  • Samara = as the biotic for shields = Survived
  • Garrus = second team leader = Survived
  • Legion and Gwunt to assist Shepard = All survived

    1 Death
As mentioned by others, I didn't really care for my characters aside from Tali who I've had the hots for since ME1. Her mannerisms are just adorable. I sent Thane to his death twice, and I couldn't care less about his character. In ME1 I almost burst into tears during the end as I thought Sheppard and Tali (a party member) had died :o

I mainly blame Bioware for clinging onto a party system that Dragon Age has, where we have too many party members and only a small selection can accompany you. As a result I just didn't feel really connected to my gang.

Yes! I want to take more than 2 people along with me for once, and have a smaller squad.
Like Stargate SG1 or something.

anyone know if it gives some kind of hint where ther reapers are from or who made them :?
In ME1 Sovereign stated "we simply...are". So no-one truly knows. The Citadel/Keepers/Extinction cycle is how they keep the advancement of species in check.

Yeah, how Saren got manipulated. Fair play, i've only played the games, not much of a book reader.

I was just thinking, did anyone even pay attention to the leveling system? To me it meant nothing. In ME1 at all times I knew what level I was and was happy when I went up a level. In this one I did not care :(

I did I think all quests and finished game in like 35hrs. I am not sure, but last time I checked I was level 27. lol. Does this one go up to 60 also?

Btw, does anyone know what did you actually get for importing a level 60 ME1 char? My one was only 46 or something like that.

Players receive bonuses for importing save games; for example, importing a level 60 Shepard provides the player with fifty thousand credits, ten thousand units of each resource, bonus Paragon and Renegade points, and allows he/she to start Mass Effect 2 at level 5. Additionally, although the achievement, Long Service Medal, requires the player to beat the game twice, the player may get the achievement for completing the game once with an imported Shepard.[29]

Thanks for that info.

I am going to replay the 1st game again now. I feel like I did not get the fix I was hoping for with ME2 due to it being so different. Will max my char to 60 :)
