Mass Effect Legendary edition (Remastered 1,2 & 3)

Don't forget, it's not only the graphics. Native controller support for all 3 titles on PC (which for 1 and 2 is a HUGE bonus, I hated all the janky mods needed originally). As well as smaller and more modern hud.

Then the UW support and higher frame rates. Sure, the graphics are no Demon Souls in terms of remaster, but honestly, I'm happy with the updates, I just want it to play well without the need for mods.

Back in the day I borrowed a mate's Xbox 360 copy and played through the Eden Prime intro then handed it back. I thought this is going to be something special so I shall wait for the PC version so I can play on mouse and keyboard :p

Who doesn't want to skip the process of downloading all the mods, and then installing them in order, and removing conflicting mods?

Just how janky was the first one :p? I remember loving it but finding it hard at the start. Don't think I've played it since release though.

Extremely.
I don't see how it's going to translate for the modern gamer.

As a remaster, I think this is 5 years too late to be honest.

I loved the mass effect series and anyone who has me on Steam knows I don't have any aversion to playing old games, but I don't know who this remaster is aimed at.

As an aside, does Andromeda deserve the hate it gets? It's only 8 quid right now and I'm almost tempted
I didn't play it through from start to finish but what I did play didn't have the engaging gameplay and story of previous games and it seemed to lack polish. The general impression I got was that it wasn't a BAD game, just an average or moderately good game, just not up to the standard people expected after the first three. I'd say you'll get 8 hours of gameplay out of it easily enough!

£4.19 on cdkeys for the standard edition on origin.

I bought it the other week because all the MEL stuff has made me fancy more ME and have been playing it knowing nothing other than "it's crap". It's alright, I've been doing lots of the side quests on so the game kinda feels like it's just got a lot of busy work, driving all over the map to do quests, then fast travelling as soon as they're unlocked. Main story seems ok so far, I don't know how far through it I am though.
Main issues with it are
  • Saves break. Seems like it's an issue with the Nomad (the car) and saving where it can or does bork the save. Some people have said it does load after like 5 minutes, I've not tested. Made worse by lack of quick save. Edit: Can be solved by exiting the Nomad and saving AFIAIK
  • You can't save on the main quests at all. So if you die (which I have been) you have to do a fair chunk of it again. I've fought my way through what I'd consider a large sized base, got inside to the commander/mini boss/elite and died, had to do it all again
  • Emptiness and large size of maps. I get you're on a planet, with stuff dotted about, but I don't fancy driving loads for ages getting across the map
  • Squad mates are dumb, they seem to stand around in the open to get shot and then go down. When they do shoot they seem to struggle to kill/hit anything. Enemy AI however will very quickly drop my shields if I'm exposed, not just increased damage, they seem to hit a lot more. Seem to make better use of cover too.
I can't really rememeber me1->3 too much in terms of gameplay, so maybe i'm being overly critical of MEA, but it's felt more of a drag to play than the others. Not tried the multiplayer on it, I've just been sending my 'teams' to do the missions that you can do in multiplayer. Is it worth the ~£4 i payed for it? Yea so far, though I'll wait to the end to make a proper decision. Would I pay £8 for it? No probably not, at least based on what I've played so far.

Good summary of the issues there. I was enjoying the story and liked the female version of the main character I chose but the missions started to get repetitive for me, too many fetch quests and the like. Think I got put back to the start of a mission a few times because of the crappy save system / checkpoints and that was it for me after sinking 30+ hours in to it.

£35.99 on cdkeys now.

Still not going to bite though. Definitely more interested at that price point, but want to have it released for 3 months before actually going for it, to remove bugs etc.

I don't mind getting some games in Beta/bug stage etc, because of replayability, but whilst you can play different styles, I don't feel this is going to be one of those.

Oh I'm 100% biting at that price

I think the moaning about price is misplaced. It's a good deal for what is on offer. Sorting out the bugs and providing a better template for modding is well worth the price alone.

If you'd never played before, sure. But if like many people who'll be interested in it, you already own copies of at least one, if not two/three of them, then it's a lot less tempting to spend a good chunk of change on a story you've already played, even if they've managed to fix the problematic parts.
