Mass Effect

Fun fact: in the last 30 days, Wyrdo's gamerscore has gone up 10970 points. That's not a typo: ten thousand, nine hundred and seventy points.

Talk about a gamer whore :p

Yeah he would have been watching my dance mat game to see how fast my points went up, then he would have been dancing like a camp jean claude van damme in kickboxer faster than you can say score whore :D

Great thread!

The opinion on this thread is totally split between amazing and rubbish , there is no middle ground!!

I traded AC in for this at the weekend and havent had a chance to play it yet however after reading this I dont think I'll like it.
I think Im the only person in the world to dislike Oblivion!

I just didnt "get it" , its one of the dullest games Ive ever played.

:O Vandle! I was asking about you a couple of weeks ago, wondered where you'd gone! Oz seems to be the answer!

I thought Oblivion was quite dull at times, but I love Mass Effect.

Yes, vanilla oblivion is dull- it is a mandatory requirement to mod it, or use other peoples mods.

Anyhow, for £25 I'd definitely buy Mass Effect, and make your own mind up about it.
Yes it doesn't quite live up to what was expected. After many side missions, they do start to get very repetitive. And the inventory system requires a lot of patience.
But flaws aside, I still enjoy it.
:)

Im still alive brother , been here almost 2 years!
I dont post in the SA now , I find it a little too sanitised. Its certainly not as good as it once was...
Anyway , I digress.

I gave Mass Effect a spin for an hour or so last night , seems pretty good so far but I didnt get far , just past the dude hiding in the crates.
It certainly hasnt blown me away but I'll persevere before passing judgement I think.

My copy is in the post now but i think it will be enjoyable to people who like RPG's that are not turn based. I never really liked the Final Fantasy series because of the sole reason. The only Turn based RPG i can remember that i catually enjoyed was Pokemon Red as a kid.

RPG games like The Witcher, KOTOR are some of my most played games so im sure i will get some enjoyment out of this installment.

Their seems to be 2 sides of RPG's to what people enjoy.

Mass Effect is an overrated, overhyped and overappreciated piece of pap. Bad combat, bad loading, bad graphical issues and performance, bad and excessive driving sections, bland and barren, empty planets that are actually copy and pasted with different texture colors (they remind me of old Atari freeform games in terms of simplicity and content) repetitive side-missions that suffer from copy+paste room syndrome, vague minigames with a total lack of explanation, contrived plot and terrible voice acting that uses repetitive and scripted motions that do not match what the character is trying to say or convey.
There's a lot of truth in what you say, but i still really enjoyed Mass Effect and am still playing it through. What I'd really like to see is an updated version of Baldur's Gate as that's just about the best rpg I've played! (with the exception of Legend on the Amiga :))

Baldurs Gate and expansions are clearly the best games Bioware have ever made! :D

didnt really like it. but each to their own. i just couldnt get into it. im up to the point where im saving some camp from geth. and i just couldnt be bothered after that :/

Its certainly paced differently compared to the traditional RPG. In fact Its more an action game than a RPG really, certainly at the very least a hybrid.

indeed. i prefer it over blue dragon, god that was dire... :/ i just seem to have gone off rpg's at the moment, i sit there listening to whats his name (the main char in mass effect) waffle on, and i start to wonder off thinking of other more interesting things. it doesnt seem to capture my attention anymore.

I think while Mass Effect is a good game, they tried to force feed you the universe and its history a bit too much. I certainly would have been disappointed with the game had I expected a traditional Bioware adventure.

I feel the same about Blue Dragon, it just doesn't have the story to hook you and the swearing seems so out of place in that universe!
