Massive Car insurance costs?

Insurance industry is also working together so the price compare websites (which used to save you a LOT) no longer make much difference...funny that they choose to do that now also must be coincidence guvnor....! I think when you compare prices now they ensure the quote is similar to stop you going elsewhere

Insurers wanting new business will have to be competitive on price, it's not good for them if everyone is just renewing with other insurers.
The reason you might save less is because of regulations, they are no longer allowed to offer cheaper quotes for new business compared to the equivalent renewal.

So in the old days, you'd go on price comparison sites and find cheap deals that were subsidised by high renewals for lazy people. Nowadays, they aren't allowed to hike the renewal prices as much and hence they have to charge more for new business to balance the books, hence on average the lowest prices are going up. Essentially shopping around has been made less effective and being lazy more effective.

This makes sense....

I just renewed house content insurance and it went up by 50%...and even after checking all the comparison sites, it is already the lowest as well.

Just got my quote in, 44 years old, 2015 Octavia Estate 1.4L petrol, no claims, no convictions living in sleepy East Hampshire. It's basically a Dad's taxi. Last year, £250 this year £450. Best I can find is £400. Best bend over and lube up.

Try putting your misses, mum or dad on the insurance to see if alters. My misses insurance came down by adding me as a named driver.
This!

Added my mother who is 68, no claims, no points lives near me in Surrey. Dropped from best quote of £400 to £390. Added my partner, she is 41 and again no points etc down to £370 best quote. Worthwhile exploring whether this helps anyone else if they are renewing. Even if, like me, they are unlikely to ever drive your car.

Mine surprisingly, came down. I paid £578 last year for car and legal cover, the same policy cost me £548.

I even added the Mrs to it after, which they did for the same price which I was surprised at. She doesn't have a UK license and had a no fault claim within the last 5 years.

When I bought my 440i. I checked wnd best I could get was £870.
The price for the CMAX i was using was just shy of £350.

I then used the Admiral portal to swap the Cmax insurance to the 440i. Expecting a £400* uplift.

Nope.... shocked to see I had an extra £50 to pay... including the online admin fee....! And that was for hhe remaining 11months as I had just renewed!
