Massive Car insurance costs?

Mine was the same, renewal/quotes shot last year. As did everything else.

My current car value is approx £2500, fully comp is £550/year (paying monthly).

Quote for Kona Electric with a value of £25000, fully comp is £1050/year.

I'm going to pay full years insurance from now on for a small saving.

Over 25 years clean licence and no claims and full NCD. Insurance went up by £300.

Of course I cancelled it and renewed elsewhere. However, get this, the underwriters are the same bloody company!

I don't get it.

Customer loyalty means nothing these days hence why so many people chop and change.

I've had the same. Renewal was expensive, went on the comparison sites and the same company was cheaper :/

Got my renewal quote through from Esure today. I'm 41 with 12 years NCB but with 2 non-fault claims and a windscreen claim. Also have business cover and up to 40k miles a year.

Last year was £450 and my renewal came in at £900. Ran some quotes and Aviva amongst other companies will do it for around £500-550 so not that bad.

I'm doing a lot less mileage though so I ran another quote at 20k miles and it actually comes in a smidge cheaper than last year so that's not too bad. Interestingly even upping it to 25k adds another £70. I left it at 40k miles in the past because the difference between 20k and 40k was something like £15 for the entire year so it wasn't worth changing, but it seems it makes a big difference now.

At least I can get it sorted for the same sort of price, just with only 20k miles but that's fine.

Wife also ran a fresh quote and her quotes are actually cheaper now but weirdly Esure aren't an option for her anymore. They were consistently the cheapest for both of us for the last few years.

I am compelled to give Sterling a go even with their dubious Google reviews.

Managed to find a deal that was only £65 more than last year so now £450. Renewal from Swiftcover was £600! Some places were taking the Michael in a big way. I always look at the most expensive quote for a laugh too. £1,900 with a £950 excess!

I mentioned something about this a page or so ago...

My insurance almost doubled (19yrs NCB, no accidents etc) from £250 to £440. did a comparison and found it cheaper elsewhere (£317). Called my current company saying id found it cheaper elswhere and could they match it or beat it to save me the hassle of cancelling and sending of proof of NC etc. They managed to knock another £99 off bringing it down to £343.

I decided to accept that offer so now all i have to do is allow my policy to renew. job done.

I've found in the last few years it seems to make even more difference than ever if you get a quote well in advance. Like say it expires on 20th July, you get a quote on 20th June for it to start 4 weeks later. Can be about 30% difference.

My other half is with Sterling and they’ve been fine so far.

Haven’t had to make a claim though, and that’s often the biggest headache.

Have you tried a broker such as Chris Knott, or your car manufacturer’s insurance?

Cheapest quote for my 135i on compare the market - £1800.

Audi insurance - £870

Chris Knott - £765

Cheers. Sterling have decent enough reviews on Trustpilot and given how much cheaper they are I'm just going to take them up on their offer.

Just had a quick look on conpare the market. Mine isn't due till December, but I did a quote for next month out of interest, model 3 performance, 36 with 18 years no claims (nor that it matters), 800, or 700 with a 1000 excess :p , last year it was 490. Quite a change which is ridiculous, don't see how inflation can affect insurance companies that much.

Yeah, I didn't notice when the last thread was created on insurance price rises, as it didn't seem to have affected me and my wife. However, I can see recently that this has changed. It's gone a bit bananas.
