Massive Car insurance costs?

I've been with the same insurer (Direct Line) for about 10 years. This year my renewal quote was over double. No reason. Clean licence. Same car, same address, leafy suburb. Always been cheap for insurance.

Left them and now insured for about £100 less (about 40%) cheaper than last year. Their loss.

Happened to me with admiral many moons ago. Back to being the cheapest again for me now though.

Just had renewal through for my Celica GT-Four and my old Saab. £355 for the Celica and £139 for the Saab. Both decreases from last year.

I guess living as far away from Bradford and London helps.

Unfortunately my insurance renewal has nearly doubled from last year. Gave them a quick call and they dropped £150 off the price, proper scammers.

Ended up paying less this year for a more expensive car, in a higher insurance category, doing x4 the miles and having my 80 year old father (who has one accident) on the insurance.

2023 BMW i4 m50 vs a 2021 audi S3 saloon.

I'm 37, 3 years no claims and I'm paying £550 a year. Not bad.

According to Martin Lewis, car insurance premiums are lower this year. Challenge any rises or renewals at the status quo.

Just renewed two cars. The price for our 7 seater was £350 cheaper this year even though it'll be doing 10,000 more miles!

Had my renewal through for the Focus RS. Down from £370 to £296. Happy with that.
The fact it's only left my garage twice since Oct..... Maybe I should reduce the miles on the policy.

Not due until Sept but ran a quote yesterday to see how it's looking at the minute, currently £160 cheaper than last year. Still £820 for a 1l Ibiza though :o

Edit: scratch that mum is obviously now a risky driver now she's 64 and retired, removing her saves another £60. First year having her as named has bumped it up. Now a bargain £760

Well this was a very unexpected, but welcome, email from Admiral today:

When you contacted us on 12/02/2025 we applied a renewal discount to your policy. It has come to our attention that you were eligible for a further £75.40 discount.

In acknowledgment of this we will be reducing your premium by £75.40.

Good to see insurance dropping a bit, although not by nearly what it has risen over the last few years.

One thing to beware of people: I see its becoming more common these days for insurance companies to exclude windscreen cover on their basic policies. Tesco's and Admiral do it that I know for certain. So keep an eye on your quotes, as replacement screens and fitting is not cheap now.

I know I had to go up a tier from the lowest quote on my car last year. When my son ran some quotes, getting the windscreen cover included added nearly as much as a declared remap etc !
