Massive Car insurance costs?

Next door had a Smashed Light and Dented Front Wing - They have had a Courtesy Car which is £234 Per Day for going up 4 months now.

I know 2 cases of this currently on-going, relatively minor cosmetic repairs but the wait for parts means no quick turn around.

Meanwhile a Rental Company gets £££ - Insurers pay out far more £££ and now we are all having the cost put onto us.

Very sad state of affairs, still not over my £493 ish to £800 ish renewal this year.

I'm guessing not claiming on their own policy? As they would have written it off as uneconomical.

£234 per day is very high, and sounds like, claims management company rates. If it's not the at fault insurer delaying things, then that could be an interesting conversation.

On your rental company gets ££ sentence, depending on the setup someone could be getting a massive commission, for example, the claims management company, or the insurer that isn't at fault and won't have to fork out. They also charge for the credit (i.e. interest).

edit:

Here is a link explaining how in 2012 the high court ruled that the non-fault insurer could charge the customer retail rate for things to the at fault insurer, even if they were actually paying a lot less (as part of the deals they have).

Now everyone does this.

If they got that courtesy car from a third party contract hire company they're going to have a lot of problems. A year later for mine and the case is still going and I have to give a statement for the court case next week....

One oy my colleagues, just passed his test, 26 years old, Fiat Panda - £125/year for insurance... looking at what it would cost me quotes are coming back at more like £1250... **** take. Fortunately the insurance on the stuff I drive is fairly reasonable - all of which is much more powerful than a Fiat Panda :s

And I guarantee he's fronting

Theres zero chance that his first year of insurance asa new driver is 125

I dunno, he is a very by the book person on the one hand, on the other it used to be his mum's car and his parents are kind of overbearing by the sounds of it - absolutely put their foot down at the notion he might buy a car with a "turbo" or bigger than 1.0L engine.

Got my renewal in this month, insurance has doubled from last year, although the car is different but the insurance cost when purchasing new car wasn't massively more expensive.

Now it is, luckily managed to get it to a reasonable level with LV in the end, only them and Hastings were quoting a reasonable amount everyone else want 1k + which is frankly ridiculous.

£234 a day is utterly scandalous.

without a doubt, its cost 125 to add him to the mums insurance

Nope - he showed me the cost in the app when I (and others) was in disbelief it was that much. I can't tell you for sure whether he is fronting on the insurance or not but as before he is very by the book person so I'd be surprised.

You sure it wasn't on his parents, and 125 was the admin fee as there was only a month left  .

That Luton fire won't help now either. That's a couple of mill gone up in smoke for car insurance

Pity the range rover driver who's car it was that caught alight, not only will have umpteen owners claiming on their insurance but also the cost of the car park and lost revenue from the airport and subsequent costs...

Just had my renewal quote from Direct Line. £360 compared with £220 last year - so a 65% increase. Been with them for the last 10+ years as they were normally the cheapest come renewal time. Lowest they would go was £280 so moved to Tesco for £210.

They did this to us one year after about 3 years, called up and they gave us an even higher quote! My boss at the time who paid insurance on the car as I used it for work, ended up screaming at them. Made no sense at all. Moved on and didn't look back.

I do wonder if the car park company will have a reasonable % of the liability due to negliance, yes that particular vehile did start it, but on car park that size a vehicle fire is surely a reasonablely forseeable event, so you's expect it to be designed to mitigate the effects of it, probably by means of all bays covered by a sprinkler system that can suppress it from spreading to other vehicles until the fire service arrive, and maybe even, in case that fails fire shutters between compartments which close to section the area off and decent fire stopping around the steels to avoid it loosing strength

Got my renewal yesterday and they want a extra £81. That may not sound a lot but when my current years insurance only cost me £156 that £81 is over a 50% increase. Going to do some searching around this week but I don't think I will get it much cheaper if at all.

Yeah bit of a difficult one, I can only presume it was built to the relevant building standards and satisfied HSE requirements, and on that basis will likely not be liable. That's not to say they couldn't and shouldn't have more robust for fighting measures.

Renewal just came in from Admiral:

Last year - £927.27
This year - £1418.76

53% increase!

I'll still give them a call and see what they can do however Aviva has quoted me under last years Admiral price so will likely just switch.

Admiral seem to be the worst for this.
Mine went from £339 to £633 with them.

A call to say I was leaving (as they turned on auto renew without asking) brought it down to £485, that should have been the renewal quote in the first place.

Gone with Chris Knott instead as they worked out cheaper after adding an additional driver.
