Massive Car insurance costs?

Last year with the RAC was £265, they now want £406.
I had a quick check with the Meerkats, and..

Almost free :D

Very early 50's.
I'm guessing it's my address/max no claims that makes it reasonable, although that said, my occupation is motor mechanic which iirc bumps it up a bit, but god knows what they class as a risk?

How can they possibly justify double? (Assuming no changes to policy etc)
I’m dreading my renewal next year based on this thread.

mine was so very nearly triple based on the comparison websites lol
thankfully ended up only a 50% increase from my current insurer which just came through a couple days ago

Just had my renewal through and quite frankly I can see why so many are now starting to drive without insurance.

Last year: £580 FC, all bells and whistles.

This year: £1400 FC with no options

No claims, convictions etc, clean licence, 7 years NCB

Managed to get my dad similiar cover for £818, last year was £778. For me last year was £496 (+£12 to change to my current car which is in lower insurance group) renewal was £887 and cheapest quote so far is £727. Daytime robbery... Nothing changed, apart from gaining an additional year of NCB.

Edit: Managed to get one for £600

Been looking for a second car for the other half. Got quoted around £1050 about a month ago and now quotes are coming in for £1500+, it's only a 2012 ct200h. My S5 was £1850 just this year.

My wifes renewal came through last week, up from £180 to £280, comparision sites were showing around £320 lowest. I added her to my policy on Admiral (went to multi-car) for 291 days for a grand total of £49 inc protected no claims.

Might have to contact Ombudsman regarding my insurance.

In speaking with another company I've found out that I have a claim on file for reversing into a car outside my home.

Whilst that incident did happen, I was not driving nor was it my car that was involved, the mrs nudged a neighbour, 2" scratch but the bint who's car it was insisted on insurance, which didn't pan out well for her as she was fronting her insurance and was caught out.

My renewal just came in almost £400 extra for next year!
Never had a claim in my entire life.
4 years NCB with the same insurer.
Yet they want an extra £400

Taking the absolute mickey here. I will have to phone around no way am I giving them £400 extra for penalising me for being a good & safe driver

Quite the opposite for me up near crime ridden Leeds.
Just started new one for a car i've acquired £205 for the year, o.O (admittedly only 8000 a year) and it's not a new car (2004 MG ZT260)
but this is a brand new insurance with 0 no claims added to it, guaranteed value (10k) and all mods declared (exhaust, throttle body,k+n,remap)

Renewal just came through at £455 compared to last year at £318. Got quotes at 30 days out and the cheapest was £425. Tried again at 21 days out and got down to £342. I'd heard it pays to do it about three weeks out but didn't quite expect that.

I feel sorry for new drivers.

Citroen C1
- 1 litre
- 68bhp
- car value £1,200

Cheapest Insurance
£3,400 with a box to monitor driving.

 :(
