Massive Car insurance costs?

So my 8 year old diesel Yeti's renewal is up 57% to £453. After a chat on the phone they offered £374 (+30%). A quick go on a comparison site returned loads of quotes around £220-280. Seems like it's time of a new insurer.

Edit, got it sorted for £248, 14% less than last year.

Well my renewal wasn't the shock I was expecting, based on this thread.

27 yrs, M140i, 19 years no claims, clean licence, never claimed.

Was 470. Now - 575.

Will still ring around to get that down, but I was expecting four figures tbh.

Welp! My M2 Comp renewal came in at £1366, up from £206 last year. Called them up and negotiated the price down by a smidgen over £600.

Shopping around and this is by far the cheapest quote so even though I'd like to leave it isn't worth the extra cost, even though my premium has roughly tripled!

Just had my renewal through:

Last year: £569
Renewal: £1032

Did laugh. Have thankfully found quotes £50 odd more than last years premium but Admiral can do one, won't even entertain them trying to match it, will just tell them to jog on

So yesterday, got an email to check my documents to confirm my renewal, as it was due to renew today.

Logged on to make sure it wouldn't auto renew as I was going to go elsewhere. The renewal was £723, down from £1032...

Happy days! No idea where that came from but means I don't have to switch now, renewed today at that price.

A real eye opener...

some people are bloody scum! and what really grinds my gears is even if they get caught not that much will happen so there is no real incentive to NOT commit the crimes if you are that way inclined.

(and IF one happened to get caught doing it and got the bloody good kicking they deserve, you can bet your bottom $ the police would have no issues charging that crime).

It is pretty obvious police numbers have been on the down turn for over 15 years. Only recently have they started to increase again. The numbers 15 years ago had to deal with a UK population which was 6 million or a tenth less than it is today.

People like you and me were brought up knowing the police were around the corner and have a unconscious thought process to be law abiding citizens because of that. The younger generation do not have that and just do what they want.

Insurance companies are bloody rip off merchants and I really don't know how things like this can be legal. Needed to get some insurance sorted for when the I Pace drive away insurance ends so did a quote and it was about £850. Expensive but I was expecting it due to the current **** poor rates. I (stupidly) didn't realise that windscreen chip repairs count as a claim so got all the way past the 2FA my card needed to authorise the purchase only to find my purchase is not going through and I need to do an online chat. I'm never sure if this counts as "insurance rejected" or just a normal payment rejected so no insurance purchased. Why they didn't tell me this before the payment didn't go through I'll never know.

Anyway, chat told me why and so due to this undeclared change my quote had now gone up to over £1.1k and do I want to proceed. No I bloody don't! Said no thanks, went back through the quote on money supermarket and added in the claim I'd missed. The same God damn company quoted the same price with no increase and the payment and purchase sailed through. How can a £45 chip repair cost that I paid £20 excess for increase my premium by £250 via chat but not by the comparison sites?! How many people would fall for the increase and just pay it there and then. Really annoying!

It really annoys me when people get caught from not having insurance get fined £300 and 6 points on their license https://www.met.police.uk/advice/ad...ut insurance, and be disqualified from driving.

As many don’t have insurance because of the cost, maybe a bigger discouragement is the minimum fine is DOUBLE the cheapest quote that can be found based on the driver’s stats - age, car etc

Had my 440i renewal through this morning, at 166% of last year’s premium. Called and questioned the increase, which was immediately dropped without any argument down to 103% of last year’s premium.

Why?

Why waste both mine and your time, and more to the point why is this practice still allowed?

I’d have moved insurers, but after the “negotiation” they still came in cheapest.
