Massive Car insurance costs?

Just seeing if I'm going mad here.
Been driving 2 years, no points. 32 years old.
Last year's insurance was £610 on Hastings Premier.

Just looking at quotes and the same plan on compare the market is £864? what on earth is going on??? Can't get it below 850 no matter what I do or where I look.

I know prices have went up, but not by almost 50%.
One of the few upsides of getting older...i noticed insurance for a lot cheaper when i got to 50...not long to go.

I think it was when I was around 25 that it got massively cheaper....

Had a seizure a couple of years ago and with that (1yr) and the time it took them to process my license application I'd not had my own insurance for over 2 years, losing 13-14 years of NCD in the process....
Was absolutely bricking it after getting my license back, as I thought it would be thousands to insure anything, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as I feared.

Audi A3 (2014, 2L TDI, 185bhp) is costing me just over £600/yr... with an added epilepsy diagnosis, no NCD and a license which I technically only got a few weeks ago (despite passing in 2005 :D )
It's on a 3k mileage limit, but I work from home so it's basically to get me to the supermarket plus a couple of trips away per year possibly (festival/visiting friends etc), well chuffed with that :)

Got my renewal email through this morning - 20% increase. Going to give them a phone as a quick look on Compare The Market shows I can save a little off that with another company.

For both our cars:
Last year £587.63
This year £658.03

New provider £571.32

I remember last year they tried to bump it over 35%, this year it's still a jump. Excuse I got was "operating costs have risen". That doesn't explain why others can do it for less than the previous year !

Multicover house and car policy up for renewal, £693. Go on Admiral website and click "not happy with price". Instant £79 discount which equates to over 11%. I hate this game!

Will phone them tomorrow and point out I can find other separate policies for 24% less, before multicover discount. Been looking for an excuse to leave Admiral for years anyway.

Had renewal quote through from LV.

Last year: £371
This year: £328

Ran through a quote on a comparison site and LV came in cheapest at £274.

I'd forgotten to add business use and a windscreen claim to the quote and it rose to £288, still with LV.

Mods declared.

Same excess

PNCD

I thought they had to give their best price nowadays.

I'll ring them.

I left Admiral this week after years with them. I've always been happy to renew and got a good quote off them each time. This year was terrible. Had to go for separate cover for 2 cars and a house but... It's cheaper after all and that's all I care about :D

I've gone from £600ish, to nearly £1200 and now down to £850 on my Giulia Quadrifoglio. Happy to be back into 3 digits, not sure how much of that is due to garaging the car now due to thieves (yes, plural) trying to nick it...

I just renewed my insurance with Aviva Zero for £530 (comprehensive). Admiral, who was my insurer for 2 years in a row couldn't come anywhere near the price and offered £789. I've had my license for 2 years now.

I drive a 2009 Honda Civic. (It does the job and is reliable :p).

Just need to source some breakdown cover. I've never had to use it but just in case, as I have a toddler and don't want to risk it. Any recommendations?

I get mine through my bank account. AA. Might be worth checking?

I joined AA for £169 on the spot as I'd broken down, some years back. The following two years were £60. So £60-80 is my benchmark as a new customer and I switch between AA and RAC every couple of years. It works out cheaper than the fancy bank accounts.

Do get the cover that works whichever vehicle you're in, if you ever travel with others.

I’m shocked and delighted that Post Office have sent me a renewal offer and it’s lower than last year and lower than the last several years. Well done Post Office. Not even going to shop around.

I recently moved from Aviva Zero to Admiral :D lol

Just renewed the wife's car insurance. Didn't argue the renewal given the offer (but since ran comparisons and it's still cheaper).

A massive drop 50% drop (well there abouts) & that's adding legal cover.

Anyone cancelled with aviva car insurance online recently? Just interested to see if they offer a discount as part of the cancellation steps.

I actually have a decent renewal price from them so don't want to risk that by going too far :o
