Massive Car insurance costs?

I've seen a lot of posts about high insurance costs for Tesla's so thought I'd take a look.

I ran some test insurance quote on 'Compare the Market'
  • Tesla Model Y LR : Cheapest £2k
  • Polestar 2 : Cheapest £750
  • BMW iX : cheapest £900 (Car value £80k vs £40k for the Tesla).

The Tesla Y is over double the cost to insure - same address, occupation, mileage, history, excess etc..
Same for me.

My renewal went from £600 to £900 (model 3 standard range RWD). Cheapest on comparison sites was £860 but no window screen cover so no chance. Cheapest like for like was £900.

I did some quotes for:
Polestar 2 LR RWD £600
EV6 LR RWD £650
Ionic 5 LR RWD £650
Mach-E LR AWD £700

Model Y LR AWD £1200

The 1.6 diesel hatch and MX-5 we were insuring 2-3 years ago were under £250 each

Thought I would look at a quote for the Model Y. 20 NCD. 45 years old. £850 for normal or £1050 long range. Crazy prices. I have an old Suzuki SX4 that’s costing me £160.

I get people's quotes will vary based on own details - higher/lower etc..., this is comparing the costs between cars using the same location and other details,

Model 3 LR is coming out at £1.5k

Tesla Insurance around 50-100%+ higher than other EV's !
Oh yea I know they'll change, just found it funny for me the ix was more  . I honestly think it's monkey's throwing darts with some of these rates.

So it turns out if can save about £100 if I link Admiral car and home insurance, and as I already have home insurance with them I’m hopeful I can call them up to arrange this. £816 might be the lowest I can get it to this year :(

With Sterling I had a decent chap on the phone and he 'persuaded' me that i was part of a car club... And that knocked of a 100 quid.

Try that.

My renewals just came through.

£100 more this year than last for both cars, I can live with that.

Hit the button on gocompare and comparethemarket and they both returned 0 results!

Will ring around a couple of companies tomorrow but have heard similar from other supercar owners that companies are just not quoting at the moment.

Renewal through for me...
Last year £160
This year £250
Going to get some search engine quotes and do my usual and go with whatever cashback deal is offering the best.
