Massive Car insurance costs?

Were moving home from a TN postcode to a PE, renewal quote for the TN postcode £391, quote for the PE £4600. Obtained a quote from Halifax for the new address also £4600, go compare lowest quote was £419, crazy, I'm a retired person on a pension who only drives less than 5000 a year, car to be garaged and behind electric gates..

God I hate phoning to get the auto renew taken off. It's the main reason I have to phone these scum call centres now. Why do they block this on the online accounts. Just had to do it for both esure and RAC breakdown as I had to get breakdown separate last year on an offer. Both gave sob stories about increased costs and read their stupid scripts in broken English. The RAC guy got particularly bamboozled when I refused to let him put me on hold to let him "speak to his supervisor" for a better price.
RAC wanted to increase breakdown cover by double. I mean who pays £126.99 for breakdown when you can tick a box on your car insurance quote to have the same thing bundled for about £60.

Strange I live in a PE postcode and just did a quote for our soon to be new car and the cheapest quote I got was £400 a year which was with two drivers on it. 10+ Years NCD and both 37 year old.

I was expecting to be destroyed with insurance costs for the LR Disco 5 we recently got. GoCompare etc all around £800 for a year. Added it to my Admiral multicar, cost £170 until March next year. Amazed.

MultiCar was decent for me - can't remember exactly but was full price for the most expensive and 40% less for each additional vehicle, will be interesting to see the renewal, and a pain if I have to sort out every vehicle if they hike the price.

Exactly, I find it inexcusable and made my feeling known to both Halifax and Lloyds bank, none of them were interested, although apologetic, in attempting to match any other quotes and I expect though they're using similar systems to obtain them. I'll probably go with Saga's quote of £419 this year but if it continues to go up then I'll be selling my car.

I'm in a PE postcode - as above - £206 :)

After the annual faff of checking prices, I settled on £318 from Sainsburys, up from £160! But that does include Breakdown and I'll get £45 cashback. As usual during checkout, the price went up £10 on top of the advertised headline quote just because they can and are *******. It's blatntly deliberate.

It seems to be getting harder to find places that will allow DOC (Driving other cars) cover included. The thing that we all used to get as standard as part of a fully comp policy where you could drive your mate's/parent's car as a one off just third party if over 25.... yeah that's not an automatic thing anymore and should not be assumed. It's actually more common now to NOT have that it seems. Both my last two policies didn't have it and they were Esure and Churchill.
The insurers also like to make this area grey, and that you will only really find out once you've bought the insurance, and it shows on your certificate of motor insurance. Most terms basically say yeah you'll probably get it but we can't guarantee it and check your certificate. Sainsburys did this for me which I wanted.

Until next year then, where I can waste another few hours of my life on it.

Just got my annual renewal through, well I received an email a couple days ago saying your policy has changed since you took it out so we have to configure a different renewal price?
Then sent me a new one this morning on my birthday, for £600 more than previous....

Absolutely gobsmacked, guess I'll be doing some deal finding in my week off next week.... sigh....

Does anyone know, when you use a price comparison site to get quotes does it leave out your current insurer if you already have the vehicle insured by them? asking because my quotes are much higher than when i got insured a few months ago but i've noticed my current insurers are not in the results it brings back.

I've been with co-op 9 years. Got 9 years protected NCD. Last week they refused to renew my cover. Rang them and they wouldn't give a reason so I went on compare the market and got a quote for £320 which was £30 more than my previous cover with co-op

In the past it's always included my current insurer and often is cheaper than the renewal they sent out :D

Policy with Ageas - 39 years old, 2011 Mini Cooper, 9+ years no claims, 8000 miles/year, with my wife as a named driver
This was their answer "We’re sorry we can’t provide you with a quote today
Unfortunately, our current underwriting criteria doesn’t allow us to offer you a quote today. If you think you’ve made a mistake, you can review your quote by clicking the button below."

I had the same with Hastings Direct...

I'm retired, have a 2012 Series 2 M235i GC, retirement present, only use the car for social, domestic etc, no more than 4000 miles a year, long no claims, no named drivers, car is parked in a locked garage behind electric gates and in a small village, been driving since 1974 so many of the insurance quotes are just extracting the pee..

Comprehensive cover for my 2017 M240i ranged about £500-550 last year, and this year it starts from £1050!!! I've not changed any details, just let CTM add another year to all the parameters! Same with Confused.com. I am speechless! It looks wrong, so I'll wait for my renewal with Admiral to come through.

Similar boat for me and my E43. It is due 09/09; so I am surprised I am not seeing a renewal already.
